    Same caliber or branch out?

If you were buying a new gun would you stick with a caliber you already shoot, to save money on new ammo, or would you branch out and buy something you do not already own?

It depends what my needs are for the firearm.

All of my guns are different calibers. It's a pain. I plan to try to stick to calibers I already own from now on. Well, except maybe for a .308 or 7mm.

I love getting something new, in both form and function. Another glock is just another glock. Another AR is another AR. Etc.

                I buy different guns in different calibers like a glock in 357sig, XD9, blued 8.5" S&W 29 44mag, stainless 5" S&W 460, 1911 .45

I keep a couple thousand rounds of ammo in the calibers that I shoot more or would use if I needed to bug out, and only keep a couple boxes of the lesser used ammo.

Currently in my safe I have 14 weapons in 11 different calibers.

Edit: plus 3 black powder weapons in 3 different calibers

                  Nice Cuda! What's it run?

Damn, I'm behind the powercurve. I only have 5 guns and anywhere from 40-1000 rounds of each cal.

With the old 440 on 110oct it ran 10.9, the current engine is a basic pump gas rebuild and runs 12.2- 12.5. I'm working on a new 513 that should be able to hit a 10.5 on pump gas

I am one for sticking with the same calibers. I find it easier to stick with the same round. Means its easier and cheaper to stockpile because you can buy the one caliber in larger quantities instead of smaller quantities of multiple calibers. Of my 4 handguns I have 2 9mm's, 1 .32acp and 1 .22lr with plans to buy one more handgun in the next few weeks and its going to be another 9mm. I have 3 rifles with plans for 2 more, .22lr, .270win and 5.56, going to be buying another .22lr rifle and build another 5.56 rifle, so I will be sitting with 10 firearms in 5 different calibers, only 4 of which I will have to reload. Definitely makes things simpler for my situation.

                        Nice! I have a '64 Barracuda that's mostly stock with a 273, and a '74 Duster with a 414 stroker. Haven't done a 1/4 in it yet, but ran a best of 7.10 in the 1/8

                          the $64,000 question.

i buy based on my belief of what the gun will bring to the table, and if what it brings is something i need.

I find my needs change over time. I've been buying, selling, trading and shooting for close to 50 years. I started out slowly, as my wallet permitted, trying and adding new calibers over the years. I'm going the opposite direction now, thinning out the collection, narrowing down calibers. .22, 9mm, 38, 357, and 45 cover everything I need. if I could get the wife to swap her 9mm for a .45 or 357, I'd eliminate the 9mm as well.

Same for for rifles, I'm down to .22, .223, .308, but I did recently add a .357 lever carbine, handy little rifle!
