I don't need a pistol in 357 mag. I have revolvers chambered in the round with 6"+ barrels great for hunting. For self defense l prefer a larger diameter bullet 44, 45

Yes, variety is the spice of life. I do have a few other hobbies. Guns is one of them and by no means I'm a collector in any way. The most that I shoot is about 500-600 rounds a month. Sometimes none at all for a couple of months. So most of my guns are nothing but safe queens. If I hoard everything from my hobbies, I would not want to imagine what my house would look like. Most likely that families and friends would think that my house is a bunker and not even a house anymore!

        3. How many thousand rounds have you put through your 1911?

        1. Just about forever, especially if it's set up right. If loose breach is fixed (most of your 1911 manufacturers still can't seem to figure this one out, springfield is the worst) almost nothing wears out. Out of curiosity I actually ran my old Rock Island 1911 for about 2500 rounds with no oil anywhere in the gun. It didn't give me a hickup till about 2300 rounds through.

        2. This is a tough one, because the patent expired so long ago on the gun, just about everyone makes em, some manufactueres build a 1911 that I would argue is more reliable than a glock, and some manufactueres build 1911's that I've seen fail on the first shot out of the gun.

        3. My old Rock Island (now sold) had close to 20,000 rounds through it, only failures it ever gave me were during the period where I didn't oil it. My current Colt 1991 (not a typo) only has about 2000 through it, mainly cause since I've moved I haven't made it to the range.

One thing to make sure of with the 1911, stick with good mags. Personally the only mags I've found that work 100% of the time are Colt Factory mags, and only the 7 rounders, the 8 rounders don't work well. I've heard from many that there are other mags that work, but I can't complain about the colt mags, they are cheap, plentiful and easy to find, they are at about every table at any gun show.

If I could get 20,000 rounds out of a gun, that is great. I highly doubt that I will ever even get there. If it goes more than that than there is absolutely nothing for me to complain about the lifespan of it.

I have heard that most people prefer Wilson Combat mags. But they are quite expensive compare to others.

Mec Gars and Chip McCormick seem about right. How are those two brands? 7 ,8,10 rounders? Which would you prefer and why?

1911's are like glocks in one way (more so even): the aftermarket. You can buy any replacement part from any number of parts makers and in most cases, will fit and function with no modification.

I can't believe you are so excited about a commander length 1911. Get yourself a standard 5" model and you'll really be shooting easy.

I use Wilsons for my Wilson, Kimber Protacs for my Kimber, and Chip McCormick for my SA 1911s. I find that my TRP Operator doesn't like either
the Wilson or Kimber - slide won't stay open after the last round. And that's the only "failure" I've ever had with my 1911s. Each of them have well over 2,000 rounds through them without a hitch. The nice thing with 1911s is that they're very comfortable to shoot. I can shoot all day with them. Can only do about 300 - 400 rounds with my Glocks before my trigger finger says uncle.
