    Weekend Forecast for
    Truckee, CA

    Friday
Light snow at times. Highs in the mid 20s and lows in the low teens.

    Saturday
Snow showers possible. Highs in the mid 20s and lows in the upper single digits.

    Sunday
A few snow showers. Highs in the upper 20s and lows in the upper single digits.

If I know CHP and drivers from Half Moon Bay, this sounds like chain weather to me. You guys think Iggy & Allison are gonna be putting chains on to come over and visit and keep an eye on everybody? Or do you thing traffic & chains are gonna keep em at home?

The reason they put up chain controls is for people who don't think they need chains

As someone that lives up in the Sierra, I've lost count of how many vehicles that get towed down the mountain because people "thought" they knew how to drive in the conditions. Last week, on tuesday, there was a sudden hail storm. Four rollovers in 6 minutes within a 4 mile stretch. All because people thought they could still drive 65 on the hwy.

What makes you think they'll be driving? I bet they have a nice Citation or Gulfstream compliments of our taxes.

Seriously people, remember, safety first. If you don't have a 4x4 or chains: when they say you need chains, they mean it. I would think it would suck to get all the way up to the snow, then turned around for not being safe.

Yes, it may be snowing.. I am going up after work Friday and returning on Saturday afternoon/evening.Really nice to be only 1hr 45mins from my driveway to the valet at the Atlantis (during nice weather conditions).
Bill, I booked online 2 weeks ago at the Silver Legacy and they had rooms for $90.00.
If you have never been to this show (or the other 2 they put on yearly) you must attend at least once.
Miwall has 2 large tables set up with great deals.
Hell, last November I even found a vendor out of Nevada that had 6.5x50mm Jap ammo for my Jap calvary carbine and at only $17.00 per 20 rnds rather than the normal $40-45 for Norma ammo.
Make sure to bring your walking shoes, lots of cash and a cart of some sorts to haul out all the goodies (1000 rnds of ss109 is kinday heavy when carrying it all the way to the far parking lot!).
          See ya there!

Even if you have 4x4 or AWD still carry chains. Normally they don't check, but you're still required to carry them with a 4x4.

I think I'm gonna sit this one out.

I don't need that much ammo yet, though I was hoping to bend DPMS' ear (usu there's 1 or 2 senior DPMS folks there) about renaming lowers.

Don't need to fight that much for R&R, and I'd have to get chains.

Gonna stick around town, may shoot Sat nite at Jackson Arms w/buddies, and go to SF symphony w/GF on Sunday eve.

Ok, it has been snowing off and on all day. It sticks when it snows than "melts" (See: freezes) on the road. The big thing to worry about is the insane winds we have been getting that come with the snow. They are more dangerous than the snow at times. Like said before, I have personally seen big bad 4x4's and SUV's just drift off the road with a little help from the wind at 25mph. They impact is pretty rough. Most 4WD owners seem to think that they can do 45+ on 1" of snow no problem. And AWD is NOT 4WD.

Chains, chains, chains. Just cause you THINK you can Andretti in the snow, does not make it so.

                          Be safe and enjoy.
And God said \"taketh your rifles, all of ye, all but those unto the nation of California, for exempt must their rifles be and the resth are forlorn.\" So sayth the Lord.

I'm checking the weather, looks to me like chains for sure, maybe some temporary closures. I'm thinking about leaving work a few minutes early and not dawdling at home to get a little bit of a head start so I don't pull in to somewhere at 4 am.

Everybody bloody well drive carefully, keep it down around 20 or 25, leave lots of room to stop, etc.

Check this site and click "Truckee" or some other area and get the latest info for road conditions, accidents, chain requirements, closures, etc.

I use this, its supposedly a "live" streaming video from the freeway cameras of road conditions:

Kingvale at 80 has lot of snow on the roads, still open, but there is snow!
Be careful and take your time.

Meh, I drove there this morning and got back around 6:30 tonight. Was a little bit of slush on the roads in the morning, but the road was bone dry by the time i drove home.

By the way, this was quite possibly the fewest ammount of people I've ever seen at the big reno show. And .50 BMg rifles seem to be the in thing there right now, a lot of em all over the place, and one table was showing off a new semi auto design.
