    Bass Pro Shops (first time)

I went to the Bass Pro Shops in Manteca for the first time, and it was awesome.
My friend purchased his first gun there and I was there for moral support, and because I love going with my friends to buy firearms. They had everything you could think of for outdoorsy type stuff. The only complaint I had was they have a number system for the firearms counter, which is great, but they only had one person available to sell firearms. Because of this we had to wait about 2 hours before my friend was able to start his purchase. If they had more associates available to help, the process would have been faster.
But other than that it was a great trip. I will def go to that place more often. It's like Toys R Us but for grown ups!

That is about par for the course.

It takes less time to buy a car than it does to buy a gun there.

Heck, elephants gestate faster than it takes to buy a gun there.

Anyways, I stopped supporting them a long time ago. The gun counter is under staffed. The prices are high. The process take way to long. The hand gun ammo is behind the counter. They escort you to the front door when you pick up the gun (no chance to place it in a locked container before exiting and taking it to your car).

For an extra few minutes drive, you could've got the gun you wanted and supported a small business at the same time. Probably saved an hour and a half of your time too.

              This,

you've got Tracy Rifle and Pistol just down the highway, and the new gun shop (Elite Arms?) just across the highway. I bet TRP would have had a better price and you would have been helped quickly rather than waiting hours.

people at the counter have always treated me agreeably. the wait for service at the counter varies wildly from none to forget it.

worth noting that all the handguns have trigger locks that the staff will not remove. so you won't be doing any dry firing while you fondle.

i don't expect them to compete with internet prices. i have seen some handguns priced similarly to other local gun stores. in the case of the ruger sr22 pistol, they sold it for $330, as i recollect, which meets or beats any other local dealers where i've noticed it for sale.

i have visited TRP and Elite Arms a couple of times. Good service. Both are small shops and their handgun offerings are quite limited. Elite Arms, as i recollect, carries little or nothing in the way of used handguns.

                  Kendall,

Have you ever seen that many fishing reels?

I was in heaven the first time I went. I think I dropped $400 bucks on that trip alone.

Just went to Elite arms the other day and it was great. Friendly staff, good prices, good products. Highly recommended. I'll never go to Bass Pro Shops for anything gun related again. Their process is the slowest I have ever experienced. Oh, and they told me it was illegal to DROS more than one gun at a time even though it was a PPT. But luckily they ran it by their manager, who stared at us for a long time, then called corporate, and 2 hours later, we were told we should go somewhere else.

Barnwood Arms is right down 99 (about 5 miles) from BPS too.

Thanks for all the input. I was not aware of these other shops in Tracy and Manteca. I will have to check them out. I love to support small businesses I just didn't know they were there. I bought my first two firearms from a small place in Pacifica called City Arms. It was owned by two older Russian gentleman, and they were awesome.
                        WJC,
Huge fishing section, I might have to take my father-in-law there. He is a huge fisherman.

                          Kendall6,

I'm glad you went to the candy store for grown ups. Everything is there in a one stop store for all your shooting needs.

It is an absolute joke that they won't take off the trigger lock for you to try a couple of dry fires. The only way I'd buy there is if I knew exactly what I wanted ahead of time and the price was right. But that won't happen because there, the price is always wrong! (by the way as I typed that out, I couldn't help thinking of the scene in Happy Gilmore when he punches Bob Barker!)
