High school students arrested with guns

3 Natomas H.S. Students Arrested In Gun Incident
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) ― Three high school students are facing some serious charges after allegedly bringing guns onto campus at a Sacramento area high school.

Natomas High School was briefly on lockdown this morning after a community member called the Sacramento Police Department and reported seeing a male black juvenile with a gun at the intersection of Truxel and San Juan Road. Due to the close proximity to Natomas High School, it was suspected he was a student enroute to class. School Officials were then notified. The school immediately went on lockdown and Sacramento Police quickly swarmed the campus as a precaution.

Police discovered that two sophomore male students had a pellet and BB gun on campus which authorities say can pose just as much a threat as a real gun.

"They look very, very realistic," Sacramento Police officer Matt Young told CBS13, "It would be almost impossible even for a trained individual as a police officer to make the distinction between these types of guns and a real fire arm."

Police said they found one weapon wrapped in a black T-shirt, the other in a blue bandanna.

Police arrested two students on suspicion of bringing a weapon to school and disturbing class. The teens face misdemeanor and/or felony charges for bringing the guns on campus. The felony charge could be imposed because one of the guns is a stronger weapon and could come with a heftier charge.
Sad but I see a couple of things in this story that make me go "huh?'

First, are they implying that because a blue bandana was used that it is somehow gang related. The colors of the item are not necessary to the story.

    Second was this quote
The felony charge could be imposed because one of the guns is a stronger weapon and could come with a heftier charge.
So now its a misdemeanor to have a bb gun but a felony for a pellet gun What about a gun that shoots both?

At a guess... misdemeanor for a hand pumped BB gun, possible felony for a CO-2 charged pellet gun.

The blue bandanna thing the reporter probably got from the cops who wouldn't commit to it being gang related.

Believe it or not there are alot of "armed" robberies committed by gang members using toy guns. Also crimminals sometimes carry toy guns and attempt to pass them off as real to other crimminals. Automatic 10 months back in prison for a parolee caught with a simulated firearm.

Maybe it was An official Red Ryder carbine action two-hundred shot range model air rifle with a compass in the stock and this thing that tells time.

You ll shoot your eye out KID.

That's why its a felony right?

Not that the kids that possessed them could kill 200 other kids. I mean please how long would it take to reload one of these things.

The poor kid probably wanted this gun for a long time.

Cool thing to do, take a toy gun to a gunfight. No toy guns in the 4 brigada household.

I agree the media source threw in as many buzz-words as they could. But how can a crime escalate due to the power of a weapon. Either its a felony or a misdemeanor to bring a gun, real or fake, to school. Its not like if you are out in the real world and possesion of loaded .38 is a misd whereas a .357 would be a felony

My parents wouldnt let me have a real gun growing up, they considers bb guns toys.

Times have certainly changed. My brother used to clean his guns in the parking lot while talking to a security guard when he attended high school, afterwards he would shoot squirrels during the girl's tennis practice.

Where that same brother is now (Missouri) they give you 3 days suspension for finding a gun in your car. It happened one time because the kid forgot to take it out of his car during deer season... no joke.

What a joke this place has turned into.

The stiffer penalty is bizarre. How can something be dangerous because it looks like a real firearm? Only dangerous to the person wielding it as if it were real...

I found a (loaded!) CO2 repeater BB gun in the door of a customer's car once. At first I thought it was real, tried to clear it, realized it was a toy, cleared it anyway and threw it in the trunk. He was mad about it. I tried to tell him that I'd done him a favor (plus, no way in hell was I test driving with a fairly real-looking pistol in the door pocket!!), and that if a cop saw it, they'd sure as hell treat him like it was real, which would very likely hurt... a lot.

Idiot drove off with it in his door pocket.

What I didn't understand is why the hell you'd load it. CO2 pistols don't shoot hard enough to puncture skin most of the time. Maybe 400 fps. IMO, you're a lot more likely to get your butt beat even worse for trying to use it on someone than you were going to before pulling that crap.

Mike- I hear you about finding guns in customers cars. We see about 40 cars per day minimum and I have found all sorts of guns in the car. Under the seat, strapped in a holster under the steering wheel, in the door pocket, etc. Usually leave them where they are as we don't have to leave the parking lot being a test-only facility, but when doing repairs I would do the same thing. Move it to the trunk just for my safety.

The good stuff is in the cars that come over for alignments from the FBI garage. They usually remember to take the FA stuff out....

when they say bb gun they might mean airsoft. i can see a airsoft being different since it doesnt fire metal. where did they find the pellet/bb guns? on the students person? in their cars? lockers?

The story doesn't say where exactly they were found. I am assuming they were on their person. No real difference between an airsoft and a C02 bb gun as far as damage. they are moving the projectile at roughly the same velocity.
