I'd tell her right away, if she has a problem now with guns, you either have her accept your strong 2A stance, or just move along.

Casually mention you are going to the range after a week or two...
      Check her response...

You wouldn't want to keep a pinko-commie around anyway, not to mention if you can't count on her to not be stupid about your likes, then you can't count on her to have your back (yard secured, if you are in front..).

Why don't we start up a pro-gun dating site on the internet (maybe there is one)? They have dating sites for all kinds of other stuff (farmers, middle-aged folks, etc.).

I'm just lucky; my wife loves to shoot. Here she is, with a gun in each pic (since pics were requested above!):

I refuse to date someone who has issues with guns. I dont mind a woman who is indifferent or just doesnt care, but I cant date someone who is anti gun or so turned off by it that it affects the date.

I will not bring it up on my own, but if asked about my hobbies I will always admit I own and shoot firearms. I dont make it a huge deal, I dont tell her how many guns I have, just the plain and simple "I enjoy going to the range and shooting guns". If this turns her off I know I dont need to continue with the date. Dont over think it.

I wouldn't put it off too long at all. Over dinner or something ask about her interests and hobbies, that will lead to questions about yours. Don't go all gun crazy on her but mention you enjoy (whatever shooting sport). I believe its better to let her know who you truly are early on.

Anyways, Since I've turned single, I've talked to a decent amount of women and dated a few. The fact that I loved guns always made girls uncomfortable, indifferent or some actually liked it, but it always felt like I should keep on DL and I had the worst timing to tell them about my number one hobby. I don't wanna lie about it, but I don't wanna hide it either. I love guns more than anything else, besides friends and family. What do you reccomend doing?

I'm talking to this really nice pretty girl and I don't wanna **** this up by bringing this up too early and sounding like I'm a psycho. After all we live in CA.

              Thanks, guys,.

I just bring it up whenever it comes up, if she asks what my hobbies are is a good time to mention it in amongst other things, if it freaks her out offer to take her to the range to learn to shoot, it's worked for me.

If your existence is defined by guns then you may have other things to worry about....
Yes, I love shooting and training, but it's not what defines me as a person.

It's really up to you...wanna get laid? Don't tell them and get er done. Think there is long term possibilities? Bring it up so you don't waste your time.

THIS worked for me.....Later, at a point when said girl would visit my place, and noticed a 36" wide safe in the living room. I simply explained that I also keep various items (critical documents, checkbook, etc.) in the safe including laptop when not home. It helps to show that you are responsible.

                  Best of luck!

P.S. have been married now for a little over a year. I have always left it up to her and just last week, she mentioned that she would like to go to the range with me. My wife likes it that a couple of my hobbies are to shoot & hunt. Different than most guys that she had dated in the past.

                    Well,

I haven’t dated in quite a few years but I find the principle the same as when I deal with raging liberals in the city, and that is to bring up that I am a gun owner and leave it at that. If they’re interested they may pursue with follow up questions or they may change the subject and I keep my opinions “controlled.”

With marriage, or if you’re looking for a serious relationship, the gun owner thing and how they feel is more important, but if you’re into casual dating and such its probably a topic that may be best to be coy about.

Let’s be real, girls in their 20’s are interested in everything “new” and “exciting,” including guns. Maybe you’re dating the wrong girls...

Well Panda... I do believe a previous member already said it; what do firearms have to do with dating or a relationship...!?! Nothing!

My opinion; DO NOT say anything about guns when dating. Now, if somewhere along the lines of relationship building and the two of you are spending a lot of time together... somewhere along that point firearms can be entered into the mix.

The fact is; she has absolutely nothing to say about whether you are are a firearms enthusiast, or not. You are a man, you are interested in, you collect, you care for, fire and maintain firearms... SO WHAT! It is none of her business, and none of her interest if she doesn't like it... TOO BAD!

Hopefully you find a woman likes firearms. And if not... tell her to go buy some shoes... look at new purses, and try on some dresses whilst y'all go shootin' and have some fun.

You big city fellers really crack me up...,

I was hoping this would be obvious on a gun forum. Guns have a huge impact on dating a girl ( if your looking for a serious relationship, if not then her opinion really doesn't matter ).
if she is one of those girls who thinks guns are evil and the world should be disarmed I don't see it working even for the most modest of gun owners.
What if aftet 3-4 years she tells you, "it's me or the gun" now your invested and attached. I personally would tell the ***** to kick rocks, but I'm cold like that.

I always wanted to get to know the gal. I also would say that I hunt and shoot for fun if it comes up, which it will when "hobbies or what do you like to do" conversation comes up. I also let her know I enjoy scuba diving, auto and boat drag racing, football and traveling. If we continue to see each other she will find out that I am Pro2A, "a gun nut",reloader and if she cannot deal with it then goodbye. She does not have to get into shooting or hunting but must accept that I will do it.
My first wife was fine with it(even went and hunted with me) until she "got GOD" then told me I had to stop. She was out the door and the locks changed within 1 hour. Before anyone starts to flame me I am not anti GOD. I believe in GOD and am only here because of him from 2 should be fatial auto accidents. I just figure if he did not tell me not to hunt/shoot directly then a wife should not do so even if her other friends in a splinter group from a church should demand me to stop.

Bottom line I do not open one of the first conversations with "I am a gun nut/shooter/hunter etc". BUT when it comes up"hobbies what I like to do" I do not lie about it and do not be forcefull in my views. That can come later if it progresses to that point.
I am single again but not because of the firearms. After 25 years I got tied of the wife being unable to keep her legs together when I was gone working or hunting. So I filed when our daughter was effected by it and finished raising her myself. She enjoys shooting(rifle/pistol/bow) and hunting. She is going to Africa with me next year on a plains game hunt. She wants a Kudu. I am at peace now finally at the age of 60.

I dated one girl seriously for awhile, and about 3 months in, we had the talk about guns. she was deathly afraid of them, and wanted to lay out the rules that down the road if we lived together, no guns in the house, maybe one locked in a safe in the closet, and the rest always out in the garage.

                            What did I do?
                            *Cue music..*

I GOT A BRAND NEW GIRLFRIEND!!!

Seriously, that talk prompted me to end it. I am not going to compromise who I am and what I love for some girl. There are too many women out there who are ok with it, and I just gotta have one! So I do now I taught her how to shoot, she loves learning and shooting. I don't have a gun safe, its more of a gun room... A very, very secure gun room. I bake more gun parts in the oven than I do cakes (and I love cooking)...

To the OP, I started making it a point to touch on guns the first date. I would always casually mention some story about a hunting trip with Dad to New Mexico, or taking a co-worker to the range last weekend. Almost always, they will stop you and address it. either "you kill things?" or "That's awesome, my dad taught me to shoot as a kid".

Its a hot-button topic. They are either opposed to it, are interested in learning(opportunity), or know a thing or two and will interject to qualify themselves to you. Never settle!

For the record, when I met my girlfriend, she was a server. I left that day with her number and plans to go to the shooting range with her It was almost my pickup line in a sense!

                              I'm up front about it.

If they want to come over to get frisky at my place they are inevitably going to wind up being shagged on the bearskin rug I sleep on with a few dozen firearms on display nearby.

I would rather they get squeemish before I invest any sort of effort rather than afterwards.

Besides most react positivly if you inform them in a mature and responsible manner.

Have you thought about a date to a shooting range. Maybe just bring one or two smaller guns and get her used to it. Could even rent a gun that way your not driving her around the first time loaded for bear ha ha ha
