I plan to go, but are the SJ shows a waste of time?

I thought the last Cow Palace show I went to earlier last year was a waste, but from the reports last week it seems to have gotten much better.

I figure better to go than not.....we may not have shows if we don't support them.

San Jose show is a big waste of time. Big waste. I wish it weren't so, but it is. Last time I went even the beef jerky guy wasn't there. And he's been the highlight.

I scored on reloading stuff a few times there. Actually a guy at the SJ show turned me onto using WSF powder for 45ACP and that's what I've been using ever since. It's always on the shelf at the local store, and cheaper than 231. I'm gonna try and go.

I went to the SF Show last week and made it out with lots of ammo. Is it mostly beef jerky and strange trinkets at this SJ show? I need to restock on some more ammo...

At the last San Jose Gun show I spent more on parking & ticket to get in than want I spent there. Back in the days there where several vendors that sold powder, primmers bullets! Plus a couple of guys had a good selection of RCBS stuff and lots of used brass for sale.

the way i look at it is there are fewer and fewer shops selling guns and the shows are getting smaller. if i don't go out and support them [shops and shows] with my $ they may disappear altogether. i don't want that to happen. don't park on the grounds and save a few bucks.

i always buy at least one box of 500 from steve at the Load-X booth.

getting slammed with the weather here in the Santa Cruz Mountains but i'm still going to try and make it down.

Last time I went (September?) I bought quite a bit of ammo (for me) at decent prices. I must have bought about 400 rounds of Wolf/Golden Tiger and actually purchased some of what I think is 7.5 MAS.

Folks, when you quit going to a show, it gets worse, and the worse it gets, the more people quit going. There are only 2 shows left in the SF Bay Area.

If you want the SJ show to go away, don't go. Yes, I know, nobody likes to spend money on a mediocre gun show where Miwall doesn't show up, but is it really so tough to spend $20 to support the south bay gun environment? I spend that in my first 15 minutes at the range.

Yes, it's easy to park 2-3 blocks away and save enough for some more ammo. A little walking is good for you!

I guess it depends on what your purpose in going is... I went to the San Jose show last year, but I had a purpose -- to buy an AK receiver from Xeno at the ColdWarShooters table.

Once that mission was accomplished I just roamed around for a couple hours, looking at everything (it was my first gun show), but with no particular purchase in mind. I ended up picking up a cheap, probably Chinese, borelight/laser thingy with a flexible neck, and some other doo-dads I don't remember. It was fun just wandering around looking at all the tables with the old ammo, antique brick-brack, and military collectible stuff.

Not sure I'd go back to the S.J. show unless I had a purpose again. Although another good thing that came out of it -- the NRA was set up under a canopy outside the front door. I got a nice deal from them -- free entrance to the gun show with my 1 year's paid NRA renewal, so that saved me the $10 entrance fee.

It was cool to finally meet Xenophobe, although it turns out I'd already met him previously at San Jose Gun Exchange and just didn't know it was him. Lotta people were loitering around the CWS table.

Yah, one of my favorite parts of going to the show is checking out the booths, the people, and chatting around. I've never gone for the purpose of buying a gun, but sometimes will be after ammo or accessories.

It's a great people-watching opportunity. It's like the dark side of the mall...

I admit I have not been to the SJ Gun Show in 9 months, but the last time I went the ever-shrinking list of vendors didn't include many gun-related sellers. There were a lot of guys selling cell phone holders. There were a lot of guys selling old LIFE magazines. There wasn't much in the way of gun accessories, unless you count knock-off/counterfeit Smith & Wesson patches.

I'll most likely be going just to scope it out, pick up a few ammo cans, and keep my kid entertained. I'm too lazy to drive to the Cow Palace so this is it for me.
