I purchased a long gun (Ruger 10/22 TD) today. After I finished DROS, the counter guy informed me that he could not release my purchase without a second form of ID (Utility Bill, Car Reg, etc.) when I came to pick up. I told him that to my knowledge that was a requirement for handguns but was not needed for long guns. He agreed but said that it was part of the terms they agreed to to get their FFL back, that it was unique to their store. Now getting the information is not a problem, but I have never heard of this and I am not sure if this is correct. I had thought that the retailer cannot require more than the law allowed, creating an undue burden on the consumer. Any thoughts on this?
FWIW it was Dom's in Livermore.
