The question remains. Were you charged $25 for DROS or $35 total for a PPT?

Dealers can charge you whatever they want, as long as they do not misrepresent government fees like DROS. Your receipt should say $25 for DROS and $10 for PPT or $10 dealer fee.

Wasnt a ppt, just a regular sale. I'll have to double check the receipt in my car, but if I recall it was one lump charge of $35 marked "dros".

Here's one for you. If the dealer charges his $10.00, as he is allowed to do, which makes the total $35.00. The Board of Equalization has deemed that $10.00 is taxable and so he should be collecting $35.00 plus whatever the sales tax rate is in your county on $10.00 of that sale. If not, when he is audited, he will be paying the sales tax on the $10.00 on every single DROS he has done whether he collected it or not. WOW that's going to add up to a lot of money.

Just some quick figuring for the average dealer, that's about $3,000.00 per year. So he if gets audited and they go back 5 years, well, you do the math.
