    Pelican cases/foam sets

    Hi all.

I work for a packaging company based in the Bay Area and we are considering opening our own e-store specializing in Pelican cases/foam sets. My boss is currently having me do some preliminary market research.

We have a direct line with a Pelican distributor as well as access to wholesale prices.

For now, we are considering doing a test run of 20 Pelican 1720 cases. For $175 apiece ($5 flat-rate shipping to anywhere in CONUS is an option as well), we will give you the case, the factory Pelican three-piece foam set, and an additional three-piece foam set made by one of our contractors.

If successful, we plan on expanding our product line to Pelican cases of other sizes (for electronics, tools, etc.) as well as begin to offer replacement foam sets (regular and pluck-and-pick).

I just want to know how much interest there is in these things.

    Thanks.

    Wow! Phenominal price!!

What would extra replacement foam run for these on its own?

Great idea but you will need a better price point as one of the CO's on this site (palmettostatearmory.com) sells the 1720 case for $177.99 + free shipping and no sales tax. so that's $177.99 to your door! were you would be about $196.65 to your door. so you need to cut $18.66 off your pricing to make it fly.

I have bought other aftermarket foam and not been satisfied with it...too soft. I would only get GENUINE Pluck n' Pick made by Pelican. Check prices on ebay also; I have bought all of miine there for much less than MSRP and I know many people do!!!

I would consider carrying the Pelican 1700 as well. Perfect for an AR or AK, a couple of pistols, magazines, optics and accessories. Very trunk and back seat friendly to the average sized sedan.

I’m in the Bay Area also, I would pay that price "if" it came with directions on how not to destroy the foam while trying to customize to my handgun.

Like I said, right now everything is on the drawing board - I am doing market research to see if our business would be competitive.

We are a packaging company (we had contracts from Wiley X), so getting foam of different densities and sizes is not a problem. We have put in an inquiry with an official Pelican distributor about getting their hard cases at wholesale price.

This is to be our first foray into an area of business that is related to firearms, but I am no stranger to the field. If initial sales results prove promising, we will naturally expand our product line.

We also have a physical location in Hayward, so Bay Area buyers have the option of stopping by our warehouse and picking up their orders if they so desire.

Remember - things are still on the drawing board. The more suggestions you can give me at this point, the better the quality/prices when we begin selling.

                  Thank!

I would not be interested in ANY foam besides pelican branded products. Unless you have a warranty that would pay for my firearm being reblued if your foam eats the finish.

Many foams contain residual acids which will eat a blued finish in a matter of days/weeks.

My rifle sat in a pelican 1750 in an attic for 8 months with zero issues. Other things in the attic had moisture/mold problems- my rifle/case were in perfect condition.

I lined a tool box with some foam I had on hand for a pistol box, and the foam at the blue.

BTW- a 1750 case with 3 layer foam should be right at $200 for you to be competitive.

On a side note, does anyone know if the pelican cases from Palmetto State Armory come with the 3 pieces of foam?

Just as a side note, I'm a big fan of the closed cell foam that these folks offer:

It's a much better option than open cell/pick and pluck in my opinion.

I also wasn't quite sure of the purpose of the second set of foam you are offering. Is it just to have a second set of foam or is there something different about the foam from your contractor?

                        Peace

That is a problem I have never seen or heard about. Most of our current business involving foams are for computer hardware (motherboards, graphic cards, etc.). That being said, we also do bulk food packaging, so we can always adapt if necessary. Thank you for bringing this to my attention. It is my belief that in order for our future venture to be successful, we have to work with the customers.

I do not know if Pelican has a patent on their foam. If they do not, we can always try to source the same kind of foam for use in our replacement sets.

As for the purpose of a second set of foam, I proposed the idea because some people prefer to use one case for different weapons. Since the foam sheets are generally cut specifically to fit one weapon, they have to buy again in order to fit another.

                              Ah oops...
I am going to be needing the 1750 not the 1720. Sorry about that.
