    WTF.....ScenicSports.com

Question: What is the process (shipper) for an inter-family transfer, out of state?

    A little background:

I'm trying to get my dad to send me a Gen4 here. I recently visted this place and asked if they could send me the gun. Right off the bat, they said that CA has Fd-up laws, and that they needed to be registered as a business with the state; which they are not.

He asked what kind of gun is it, and then told me that he wasn't sure, but that I wasn't allowed to have that model/make...

We went round and round, as I told him that it was perfectly legal here, as long as it was through a FFL. The guy emphatically said that "it was too much paper work (CA DOJ, etc, etc.,)" and that he really (3X's) "didn't want to get in the middle of it!"

Now if any body knows what's going on up in that area (Bakken oil field), businesses are exploding, and from speaking with my pops, they can turn away business as they see fit, because who cares....why deal with the head ache.

I think I read Op right.... If i did:

If it is coming from out of state it has to go through an FFL (thats a federal law). Intra-familial handgun transfers only work if both parties are in CA.

that they needed to be registered as a business with the state; which they are not.
now this is the part I'm having trouble understanding. The only thing I can think this means is to send a firearm to an FFL in CA from out of state you need to send it from another FFL., which is true. If you want to send the gun to CA you have to go to a dealer and have them transfer it to your FFL in CA.

There are about a thousand threads on this in the handgun section

Everything I say is probably wrong.

Wait, I think I see what's going on. Your father is a resident of North Dakota? While visiting him you went to a gun shop in North Dakota and asked them about shipping a Gen4 Glock to you in California? And that shop doesn't want to deal with California's CFLC system?

If you are using the intra-familial exemption to get around the Roster then your dad needs to actually buy the gun himself and then ship it (or take it himself) to a California licensed dealer to be transfered to you. Scenic Sports doesn't need to get involved beyond selling the gun to your father.

Not all FFLs in California understand how do process a family transfer from out of state. You need to ask around to find a dealer in your area that will accept the shipment directly from your father and transfer it to you as a Roster exempt family transfer. Your father will have to ship the handgun via UPS or FedEx overnight service. He should include a note to your local FFL explaining that the Glock is a gift from him to his son (you). He can't include any large capacity magazines though.

Thanks for your insight! I will ask around if my local FFL will accept the gun from my dad...a none FFL.

There's a thread around here somewhere that lists a bunch of FFLs in California who understand how to process a family transfer from out of state. I will try to find it. One of them is bound to be close to your area and hopefully will also accept a shipment directly from a non-FFL.

                  *** EDIT ***

                  Found the thread...

It looks like the final list was never posted, but there are several FFLs who responded in the thread.

Also, have your dad include on that gift letter a copy of his DL.

I can tell you that OC ARMORY here in Orange County can handle this gift transfer for you. Call Mike. Nice people with know how.

Also, OC ARMORY does sell GEN4 GLOCKS as well. Probably less money than paying shipping and the out of State transfer fees.

Since you are in Riverside County...
Check with Bright Spot Pawn and Warrior One.
In the past, they were up to speed on out-of-state intra-familial gift transfers and would accept shipments from private parties.
