Sorry, you must have got a bad one. I bought the same model for the same price 3 or 4 years ago, and its been fine. Go with the suggestions given and request a replacement.

I haven't bought a whole lot from cabelas, but will from time to time as they have a nice variety of everything... You can put me down as someone not buying from them until this is resolved fairly.

        3. On the letter informing them you're a member of Calguns of good standing (siting your posts numbers and let them read about 'you') and that you've let the situation known among the 'gun folks'. And invite them to Calguns to participate and keep track of this development- that it's not worth it to 'soil' their reputation among the 'gun folks' for $175.

        Get all these ready, then..

        4. Call their customer service manager; first, ask for quick resolution..if not, then tell them about the email you'll send them.

        5. And keep this thread alive until this is resolved (and email Cabela with your updates)
Reading through the thread I was thinking the same thing. Let them know you expect them to make good on an item sold in a defective product, out of the box defective. If they won't stand by their product and customer you'll be forced to cancel the credit card payment, and continue to advertise the shabby treatment of their customer on calguns by link to this thread.

Having a large potential buying population actively and repeatedly warned that there's no support or respect for customers, and their unwillingness to make a bad situation right will likely not end well -for them.

Hearing this I can say that the Cabela's near my in my new NC home will not see any action, even if they do resolve this. It's not worth the risk to have to ***** and moan and threaten to get a modicum of customer service.

Hope you get some positive resolution, and thanks for the warning that Cabela's is not to be trusted, respected or patroned.

I called customer service again today, expecting a long drawn out battle and eventually a call to Visa...but the attitude today was...Oh, that's horrible, let us send you another one and we will send you a return shipping label to send back your gun.

Its amazing the variability of one customer service rep to another....

Thanks for the advice on pushing this again, I think last night I had wrote it off.

In your first post, you requested a refund. That's very different than an exchange for a defective item.

I've found Cabela's to be quite fair honoring products, or at least those with the Cabela's brand name.

Hope the new iron works as advertised.

Refund or exchange....last night it was just...hey, your out of luck...good bye.

When the new unit shows up I will definitly mic it as I found one cylinder was 0.439 at the mouth. The other 5 were 0.445 - 0.450. I will also machine the hinge piece from SS to replace the stock mild steel part.

I am happy with the outcome.

I didn't want to hassle the OP, but check the reviews before you buy something.

Sell it as unfired NIB and find a Ruger Old Army.

If you can blow up or break a Ruger BP, I think you win a prize.

I have an unfired 50 caliber Ruger muzzle loader rifle if you just can't live without one.
