I didn't get my personally owned gun until I was 18. Everything else was borrowed or Dads. Before that it was BB guns.

Shot my first gun at 13 or so, a 12 gauge (ouch!) and a .22 bolt action.

Then went into CMP Air Rifle at my high school JROTC and did that before it was banned in my school district. Fun times

5 first pellet gun, 8 first .22 (been shooting before that), 16 first shotgun (used to take it to school with me to hunt on the way to and from, and yes it was legal to have in my truck at school on school grounds)

First shot when I was 5-6 years old 10/22 and a Calico in .22. Was taught never point at anything you unless you are willing to destroy. I couldn't even point toy guns at my brother unless actually talked about that it's playing time.

That's actually a good idea and I think I'll use it with my boys. They love playing soldiers with their nerf and other toys guns, but it's good to teach them early on the difference between playing with their toy guns and handling real ones.

5 years old for BB 6 years old my grandfather gave me my first .22 then we moved to WY when I was 13, so at a gun show at Salt Lake City I bought my first .22 handgun (man those were the days) then bought my first 30.06 when I was 16. the only gun I still have from that time is the .22 but gave it to my son when he was 13. I took about 15 years off from shooting and just got back into it about 8 years ago.

I first shot when I was 9 at Mountain Camp here in CA. We learned basic safety and shot some .22 rifles. I hadn't shot since I was 11 at camp 'til I got my Kimber at age 26! lol
