    Act of Valor...again

Pretty great flic, except the acting. I really like POV shots, very different from any action movies(except doom). And I enjoyed seeing p226 in action and ar15.... I mean m4s as well.

But, uh has anyone noticed that the seals were shooting semi auto !?!? That's so awesome.

I am obviously wide awake right now.

The rescue extraction scene with the fast boats......gave me wood. Just frickin' awesome.

Plus, the sound guys nailed the evil minigun howl exactly right. A howl so evil that Lucifer himself would cringe in terror.

The acting was a bit meh, but understandable considering the casting. Note that the kind of precise and stilted tone of voice in briefings and radio communications isn't necessarily a case of bad acting, but proper military communication where you ar-ti-cu-late every syllable to enhance precision to ensure that there are no misunderstandings.

FA is generally gonna be waste of ammo, and when you're behind enemy lines, or on a covert op without ready availabilty of resupply. Gotta make your ammo last. And when you're a good enough shot.....why send 30rds down range when you can get the job with 1 or 2? You might need those other 28 later.

One thing I noticed and thought was awesome was the seals putting rifles on safe after firing off a burst to reload. I don't recall ever seeing this in a movie.

                    Great Movie!

I talked to someone who is on a SWCC team and he said that scene is pretty dead on, on how they operate.

I just didnt like the realazation of no silencers. I worked with a Seal Team working in our A.O and they all used silencers. In the mexican village scene, they would have avoided waking up the whole village with a silencer.

                      When did they invent silencers?

You mean supressors...and they work nothing like they do in the movies. You still hear the shot, you just can't tell exactly where it is coming from and the volume is reduced if you use the proper subsonic ammo. Plus they change the ballistics of the round and do not do well in certain environmental conditions. So it is not like they use them for every single mission.

They actually had the sniper using a "silencer", or at least they had the rifle perform as if the imaginary device existed. So as "realistic" as the film is, it too uses many Hollywood gun myths as plot devices. The realism only goes so far. Still, it is a cool movie.

Watch some youtube videos on the subject. Plenty out there showing guys with surpressed weapons, the same ones the seals use, shooting various types of ammo. Seeing how it actually works in real life will bust this myth for you forever.

In a loud urban eviorment, the noise may blend in. In an empty jungle it would be more than noticable and you would still telegraph the attack.

308 is pretty darn loud even with subsonic ammo. With non-subsonic ammo that has greater reach it is damn loud.

5.56 (223) is loud enough not to be considered silent even with subsonic ammo.

9mm is also pretty loud with a supressor using subsonic ammo.

45ACP is what the Seals typically use last I checked.

Well I will say as someone who spent 5 years with Naval Special Warfare and a Boat Team, Yes we have them and yes we use them. Suppressors that is. Silencers don't exist except in the movies.

Depending on the op we would use them, sometime we wouldn't. Variables are calculated into the mission planning that I won't go into on a public forum. some liked them most didn't due to weight factor and muscle memory. for what they do compared to what they don't it isn't worth it sometimes. The sniper uses them in order to prevent the enemy from pin pointing where the shot came from.

And yes, the scene in the movie doing a "Hot Extract" is dead on. I know where that was filmed and have trained there before. Honestly that is one of a very few places those actions can take place with a live fire exercise so for the Boat Teams that is a standard run and gun(most are board with it cause it is the same every time for safety reasons).
