    1911’s ~ too finicky 2011’s oh yeah πŸ€”

    So, like wait 🀨
1911’s are too finicky, can’t reliably feed modern sd ammo, and just need too much maintenance, range toys. Ok 😞

2011’s ( that are basically 1911’s ) are just so in, and like are really easy to maintain constant hits, and are just so modern a design for sd gunners, and just have the right capacity (9 mm πŸ˜– ), and whatever else ..

Basically 2011’s are a 1911 with a higher capacity 9mm magazine, but now we give it a pass ( 1911’s range toys ) because it’s the new 9mm goodness ? What happened to all the problems that came with the 1911 being too old for modern sd ?

8+1 of 45, 230 gr bullets are no bueno ?

This is what happens when this generation goes gun shopping in the unisex department. One of these days they'll discover they come in Mens.

          Have checked
out some 2011s but the single stack 1911 just feels so good in the hands.

I'm guessing they all have fully ramped barrels now. Plus feeding 9mm is always going to be easier to engineer then a squat, fat .45

I love the 1911 platform, IMO eons better than striker fired firearms. Before I moved to TX, my Les Baer was my nightstand gun. Now it is a Staccato P with 20 rounds of 147 gr HST. And one of my carry guns is a Sig P238, a micro 1911. But I still love my 1911s in .45acp, they're reliable and still some of my most accurate pistols.

The way 2011 pistols are priced will ensure that in 5-10 years most of the shops that produce and/or sell them will no longer be open for business. They are 45 ounce competition pistols with ridiculous grips, mostly chambered in 9mm. That’s it.

I got a laugh out of that.
My experience with the 1911 platform goes back to the late 1970’s, and for me they simply work. My 1911 carry weapons are extremely reliable, will function 100% with any ammunition that any of our Glock (or insert any other maker here) pistols we have, and I simply like them.
The 2011 is a neat, modern extension, but for me they are just a bit larger in the grip frame than I like. Just because those are currently all the rage doesn’t degrade their single-stack counterparts one bit.
Call me old because I like the classic 1911 pattern, and add to it the fact that I also prefer bolt rifles, revolvers, DB shotguns, and vehicles with stick-shift transmissions.

I can see you’re point, but didn’t JM Browning when he made the blueprints for the OG 1911 consider the OAL, and that the short round then needed the 5” slide ( with the dwell timing ) to reliably feed the round ?

I heard during the trials- that the 1911 / 45acp fired a few hundred ( if not 6,000 rounds ) with minimum issues. ( just what I recall ). .

I believe that the 9mm / 1911 ( single stack) combo came later, and that might be the reason for the ramped barrel and blue printed magazines- which have hit the market.

I’m a little behind the 2011 craze, I’m more of a die hard 1911 / 45 person, and was just a wondering why the 1911 is considered washed up 😏, while the 2011 is the new way to go. πŸ€”.
Maybe I’m just a brainwashed and my mind has settled down a bit ~ 😁. Thank you.

I’m sure the old gal can run.
I just grew up in a time when you would take you’re new 1911 to hoag and / or kings to polish and throat the barrel, seems that there was a couple of gunsmiths that worked on the 1911’s - just to insure maximum reliability.

I also remember having that done so I could feed the lady with the Speer β€œ flying ashtray β€œ 200gr bullets, the β€˜ black talon β€˜ and the federal hydra shock 230gr rounds.

About the only β€˜ high capacity’ system ( at the time I was around ), was the para ordinance lower parts kit that gave you the option to upgrade the pistol from 7 / 8 rounds to 14 rounds.

I’ve tooted an all steel 5” 1911 in a milt sparks summer special and belt for a few years, and I feel very comfortable when I have a 1911 and that 45 round at my hip.

                      Like you I’m a 1911 / 45 man - just something about her 😁

In a few years I’ll probably warm up to the staccato / Springfield 2011 system.

That little pop gun ( 😁 ) sig 238 is a nice one. I’ve been shooting mine and it is a nice system.

Like you I do admire my 1911’s. πŸ™‚

Keeping in mind that the 1911 platform was originally designed to run 230 grain β€œhardball” loads. Bullet design profiles were not what they are today, yet with some simple machining Old Slabsides can keep up with anything else that has had the advantage of modern design and manufacturing processes. Now when you buy one, likely it is already configured to run just about anything.

I actually have several examples as done by Jim Hoag, Armand Swenson, and Al β€œCapone” from Kings Gunworks. One is also by Lee Brown of Brown’s Guncraft in Northridge.

Yes, the Speer 200 β€œFlying Ashtray”…still have a small hand-full in my loading room, along with a few old boxes of Black Talon.

                          For a long time I kept a 5” Government model in a Bianchi 3S…
