You should have schooled them on the proper range usage of the stuff they decided to buy with their own money.

There was more plastic on most rifles than in Pamela Anderson's chest .
I know I shouldn't give a crap but when my son starts giggling at some of these ninjas I feel obligated to enlighten him.

So what why would anyone need a full length quad rail on an AR platform ..

Maybe when they're not on the bench they actually have lights, foregrips, or swivel mounts one these rails at home when they're stored as an HD weapon?

        Why shoot a 308 on the 50?

Springfield Socom II? Maybe they wanted to be sighted in at 50 or less to get in a good zero for CQB distances? Not everyone shoots just .223/5.56 in close.

Why use $500 glass to hit anything under 300 meters?

Because my ACOG allows me to fight with the same rifle from CQB to 600 meters. And it'll never run outta batteries.

Bipods on carbine length ARs with 16 inch barrels .?.. Um....

Just because its a 16" barrel or carb length gas system doesn't mean you can't take a long shot over 100 yards and still hit 3 moa or better. Maybe he's just trying out a bipod on his current rig to see if he actually wants to build something better for long distances? Maybe he doesn't like the sand bags at Metcalf and just wated to see how a rifle off a bipod shoots in terms of stability?
        My thoughts in bold.
