[QUOTE=Dirk Tungsten;n54562957]Holy cow, OP! Like everyone said, you're very lucky you're ok and have all your digits after that,[

tell me about it i haven't been shooting since and it's like I know I'm going to get back on the horse but man it sure was a hairy situation it was like it was weird because it was just like it was a different feeling than shooting a regular round you know and it was like so I think it was cuz I have some Walker noise canceling earpro and it went off and made my ears ring with the earpro on with the noise cancellation on

That was a major KABOOM! Glad only your nerves and your wallet were injured. I’ve had a couple kabooms in my life shooting, but none that bad. Interesting enough both of mine were with 9mm ammunition one in a handgun and one in a carbine.
Im a warmonger baby, I got blood in my eyes and I'm looking at you.

Bummer about the damage and cost, but honestly, for the slide to come off and parts to go flying, it could’ve ended a lot worse. Definitely makes me think twice about ammo quality and checking cases. Thanks for sharing—solid reminder for all of us to stay alert out there.

Hell yeah I have some reloads that I made during covid and I cannot seem to get past the overwhelming urge to pull them down and redo them .1 per day so I can methodically check and recheck and the wait a few hours and check it again . . Im exaggerating a little have about a 1000 so if i do 2 cartridges a day it might take me a 500 days but I will sleep better knowing that none of them will do that again . If factory can cause a situation like this . I want to make damned sure that no mistakes were made . And double check for any aluminum cases .which how woukd one even check for that ? .

Yeah and eye protection. I had sun glasses on and even a spec of unburned powder traveling at hyper warp speed could have caused an problem. I also think that if it wasn't for my consistent placement of my perfected expert grip it helped keep it together as compared to if I had a limp wristed sissy grip .

glad to hear that you're okay. when my wife and i go shooting outdoor, i park my truck away from us. we also wear gloves not that it will prevent any injuries when there's kaboom but at least there will be some layer of protection.

op, you can spread a cheap plastic tarp (harbor freight) on the dirt to catch your casings is another option.

I usually use a old blanket but I was doing some rifle shooting and was using the tailgate as a rest so I just left the tailgate down .

A tarp will also make it easier to find your fingers, so they can sew them back on at the hospital, should this happen again.

my wife would just push me onto the tarp, roll it up and put it in the back of the truck straight to the emergency.

40 is higher pressure and has an unsupported portion of the chamber. It breaks guns more than 9mm IMHO because of the extra snap. Glad you or someone wasn't hurt worse.

I hear what you are saying...............

I'd recommend a slower voluminous powder that at full manufacture recommended limits would OVER FLOW THE CASE. These are powders I hate of course. They meter poorly and don't fully burn off.

It might not end up your best shooting load, but it would be a big step toward a SAFER load.

                              It also doesn't prevent squibs.
Before there was Polymer there was Accuracy.
