    Catastrophic failure

So I wanted to get my shooting iron back before i told my.story .
I was out in the desert doing my thing with.my p2000 40sw . No.mag dumps , no speed reloads just casual shooting. When it felt like a fire cracker went off in my hand . The noise/feel was ...larger than normal so immediately set down the pistol and did a hand /finger check and everything checked out . I then looked on the table and did a double take at what was once a complete firearm.
Explosion blew the slide from the from the lower I shoot beside my truck with the tailgate down so the brass goes in the back of the truck bending over to pick that crap up gets old so the extractor shut off the side what I think was the extractor went through the back window of my truck I still haven't found it the lower back strap above the back strap shattered and all the parts with the hammer and we're all bent and some were missing I'm going to try to post pictures so I called HK see if what was up with the warranty they said that I had to send it in so they can look at it . The representative at hk said in the meantime contact the Ammunition Company which was Federal and let them.know so I did. They said they needed a lot number on the box and I had only had a few of those rounds left so I had condensed them in another box so I didn't have the lot number and they said well when I get the report from HK send it to them and they will evaluate situation all said and done they check it out and apparently the failure was with the aluminum case 250 bucks to get it repaired had to get a new lower new extractor in a couple of the parts new serial number Federal said they pay for half so I got it replaced for 125 bucks and all of you and the new d r o s I'm going to try to post pictures so if this post doesn't have pictures attached to it I'll post them right after

Oh dang! I shoot a lot of Federal through my HK P2000. American Eagle, and HST, 9mm. Glad you weren't injured, and pistol will be fixed. Is Federal buying you a window for your truck?

        Dammmmm
Looking at your picks you're hand/face is very lucky.
I would send back all ammo to Federal and ask them for 100% of all damages $$$
No reason you should be out any $$$ including DROS fee......

        Do you shoot alone?

Took you're picture to try and show the case in barrel.

More and more of these stories makes me think two things; I really should better fortify a trauma kit for when at the range and that guns simply aren't made as well as they used to be, overcharge or not.

Lucky you didn't lose the web of your hand, thumb, index finger, or parts of your face.

what a mess. you got me thinking about fact that i generally load up a bunch of mags before a trip and simply toss the boxes. granted at some point the ammo gets comingled in mags, but reckon i should at least keep the boxes out of trash until after fact.

You're damned lucky. What happened to you is one of my big fears when shooting. You might want to buy a lottery ticket to see if your luck is still running good.

The big cost is replacing your window.

Yeah I was 250 bucks I think to get the get it fixed by HK and federal paid for half of that if I want to have the box with the Lot number they would have paid for the whole thing

Yeah I shoot alone since I didn't have the lot number of the box and only the case they only pay for half which was $125 bucks it was 250 to get it fixed but HK was really cool about it I mean they didn't make me pay for shipping and that they gave me a few extra mags and swag I mean I know it doesn't make up for the potential damage it could have done you know I mean in the back window don't forget about that that was 500 bucks to replace I Still Haven't Found What shot through it and I think it went and hit the ceiling and came down and for the windshield and went down the defroster vent

Yeah Federal said they would have paid for the whole thing if I would have had the Box and the lot number take a picture of them and send it to him but they were just taking you know the picture I had of the cartridge and my word for it so they only wanted to pay for half

Yeah they didn't have to because all I had really was the picture of the case and my word they really didn't have to help me out at all cuz I really had no legitimate proof that it was their case except that you can read a little bit of the F on stamp so they would have paid for the whole thing if I would have had the box in the lot number
