    LGS behavior

So I went into a local gun store about two weeks ago to purchase a lower receiver of a brand that is not typically something you would find. At the same time another gentleman was in there asking for a return on the same brand. It was a blemished lower and was not advertised as such he wanted a replacement.

Just for reference, the manufacturers website prices, their non-blemished lowers at 102 bucks. Blemish lowers are 53 bucks MSRP. This local dealer was charging 99 for a non-blemished lower.

fast forward to today. Went to pick it up and thankfully mine is in fact a non-blemished lower, but I saw the blemished that was returned in the sales counter…..marked at 119.99 minus a 20 percent discount for being blemished. That’s pretty shady because the normal non-blemish price is 99 bucks so he inflated the price and then acted like there was a discount happening on that item so he could sell a blemished lower for non-blemished pricing. Shady as hell for another what…20 to 40 bucks?

Then, because obviously he forgot I was there when the thing was being returned, the owner starts telling me the story and then almost bragging about how his distributor gave him a replacement cost, and then he reached out to the manufacturer and they sent him a replacement for free and neither of them required the other lower back.

it isn’t illegal but shady and not how our gun stores should be treating their customers. It’s especially aggravating seeing that the owner of the store is Ex law enforcement.

i rarely go there anyhow because traditionally their pricing is way higher than others and while they say a price match, they always have an excuse as to why they’re not going to on that particular instance or the particular product

I really posted as more of a rant than anything. Not to publicly disparage a gun store but just thought it was shady.

Not Clickbait. Just a little bit of a rant. I also understand free enterprise and while not illegal, definitely shady.

Just because I don’t want to name, the actual store doesn’t make this Clickbait. I was ranting about something that I saw, but I don’t think that I should make an attempt to affect that guy‘s business. By naming the store publicly. If anyone in the greater placer/ Sacramento county area wants to know, they can pm me. When did Calguns become so damned libtard where if you post videos you get blown out and if you don’t name names you are told your posts are clickbait.

I'm not sure why a retailer would take that type of risk.

Everyone has a smart phone these days and anyone can pull up the MFG website while they're in the store to find out how much blemished lowers cost...And then know that the dealer is trying to screw them. Seems like a pretty dumb risk to me but I guess there are a) still a few people out there that don't know what things cost and b) don't know how to use the interwebz.

Also, this is just one of the many reasons why people hate LGS's. Because they are often run by idiots.

It's far from being the worst of what many LGS do in CA. At least it's not FUD.

They could easily chalk this up to availability, profit, and margins. Such as, if you bought that blemished lower from the manufacturer's website, just what are you also going to pay an LGS for the outside inventory/incoming third-party sourced transfer fee? $50? $75? fee at best?

So their mark-up may simply be commensurate with what someone would pay 'all in" regardless, the reason they came to that price. And someone will certainly buy it.

And should Harrisment win in November, they could up that price thereafter to $175 and it will be sold by Christmas.

If some level of government had that information, what would they do with it? How would having that info benefit public safety? How would it benefit law enforcement?

i can overlook the high pricing and discount tactic but the above is a no go for me.

I was thinking the same thing. Most LGS' transfer fees around here are $100. Some won't even do transfers, as they want to sell guns in their inventory and don't want the hassle of dealing with inbound/storing/failed DROS's. Did I forget the standard tax and additional 11% CA extortion fee? They have to figure that out, and its usually from a typed up invoice, which, they can either choose to believe or not. Yeah, the LGS marked it up and fabricated a story. I've seen far worse than this.

All this can change in November, for sure.

Guess OP is fine letting other members of the gun community get scammed since he is protecting this store by not naming them.

OP is just another whiner....he somehow thinks that a business has to be run on his terms and not the owners. Dont like it...SHOP ELSEWHERE! There is no Constiutional RIGHT to buy guns on your own terms. Personally...I think the OP is whining about chump change anyway.

apparently, speaking about seemingly unethical behavior is whining. As far as whining over chump change, it didn’t affect me one bit. It was simply something I saw and seemed shady. As far as chump change goes, you’re absolutely correct. It is chump change, so I don’t understand why business owner would risk their perceived integrity over it…. And I never insinuated anyone had to sell me anything under my terms. I said I won’t be taking my business there in the future. I made my purchase and my purchase was solid.

                              Dude, you'll never win.

Either you are screwing over the commentariat by not naming names, or you are a selfish, entitled, spoiled, latte drinking Prius driver for expecting ethical behavior out of a business. There is no in-between.
