Before you go shopping, you need to make sure that California couldn't consider you a resident of CA while you were gone.

If they could, you have to ship everything you bought in TX to a CA dealer for transfer. Anything you bought in CA, you can bring back with you. The only exception is magazines over 10 rounds, none of those can come back with you.

Sorry for your loss of freedom.
    Yes you can have 2 C&R 03 FFL's; 1 in California and 1 in a different state.

The only unquestionably legal (at least for now) way to have a braced AR pistol in CA is to register it with AFT as a Title 2 AOW ($200 tax stamp). See Quiet's posts on the subject in this thread including the relevant code sections: https://www.calguns.net/forum/firear...-on-ar-pistols

As long as these pistols don't violate CA's AWCA, you can bring them in even if they are not on the roster. On guns where fixed mag. is not an option, threaded barrel would implicate AWCA however I believe you are allowed to keep the threaded barrel so long as you remove it and install a non-threaded barrel before returning to CA. I believe the other pistol features that implicate AWCA (e.g. mag. well outside the pistol grip, barrel shroud, etc.) can only be resolved by rendering the gun fixed mag. so if you bought a semi-auto Tec-9 for instance, that would be something you might have to leave behind unless there is a fixed mag solution for that platform I am unaware of. I guess another possibility would be to make such a gun single shot.

Me, personally, if I were in your shoes I'd bring back an early H&K Mark 23 with the maritime finish.
