You have been around for quite awhile. Do you really believe that?
Does the US government auction off untransferable NFA firearms to veterans?
In a word, no. -
the drmo has made mistakes before. theyve given non demilled equipment out when they werent supposed to. this is why in the fine print they tell you they can come back and retrieve it from you.U.S. Army Combat Engineer

Okay, fair enough. But do you think they would give away or sell a title II firearm like an M16 on accident? It just seems like that is something so obvious that even the government couldnt screw it up.Comment

depends when this was and who was in charge, i can see it happening. slim chance, but if he said they were selling connex boxes full of them id think more that hes full of bull. if this really happened im sure him and some others are in big trouble. unless he made up some bs story about the drmo and he really stole it.U.S. Army Combat Engineer

Okay, it may be possible. But given the probabilities, I am inclined to think not true.depends when this was and who was in charge, i can see it happening. slim chance, but if he said they were selling connex boxes full of them id think more that hes full of bull. if this really happened im sure him and some others are in big trouble. unless he made up some bs story about the drmo and he really stole it.
If it is true, I would think he would at least keep quiet about it....Comment

Whole operable firearms do not go to DRMO. All broken, defunct, or obsolete firearms will go to Anniston Depot for de-mil.
The only thing DRMO will get, is fully demil'ed parts that have been bagged and tagged with exact information.
Your friend is FOS."A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself...A murderer is less to fear. The traitor is the plague."......CiceroComment

That was my understanding too. I just find it on this side of impossible that a fully operational M16 could make it over there, no one says anything, then its publicly sold, presumably in a room full of bidders or whatever, no one says anything, then the guy gets it, and doesnt say anything..
Unless you count the OP, who comes here and ask us... The proof is in the pudding. I personaly would not want to get any where near a gun like that, but it seems an easy matter to settle. He either has a Title II M16, or he doesnt.... And if he does, it may not have come from govenment surplus. When was the last time the govenment sold operational firearms? Excluding the DCM/CMP. Have they ever?
Its been awhile since I've seen a USGI M16. They're marked US PROPERTY right?
I have a demilled M16 reciever that I bought from Sarco or somone like that, but its not a mil version. I think these made in the early eighties for foreign export.

Yeah, but your faith in the gov't is the same faith people gave Holder before Fast and furious....Comment

I do not believe this. They passed a law a while ago (If I remember Clinton or before) that the USA will never sell any more surplus weapons or ammo beyond what the CMP sells now. (I swear there was a law at least and not just policy)
Rifles for sale at CMP include the M1 Garand, M1 Carbine, 1903 and 1903A3 Springfield, 1917 Enfield and the Kimber Model 82 .22 caliber target rifle. Other vintage U.S. military rifles such as the U.S. Krag rifle, the Mann Accuracy Device and others are made available in small numbers on an "as-come" basis.
I could be wrong but I do not think I am.Last edited by Nathan Krynn; 05-11-2012, 10:58 AM.Comment
