    Safe Dehumidifier Use, Summer Time?

Don't see too much on this anywhere, so I figured I'd ask to see what everyone else is doing?

I have a Golden Rod dehumidifier in my safe. This works well in the winter, but not that it's summer time and HOT, do I still need to use it? Now my Safe is warmer than ambient temp of the garage. I'm in Sacramento for reference, so it's been quite warm lately.

Do you unplug yours, or leave it plugged in?

    TIA, PFA

The biggest threats to firearms are Politicians and Rust!
My safe is also in a garage, but in San Diego, hardly hot enough even in the day time to not have any moisture creep into the safe, especially as humid as our night air.
I run mine every night (it is on a timer with smartthings; at sunset, it checks the ambient humidity, and if above 25% turns on until sunrise).

I'm in Lodi, and I have one of these in my safe as well as each of the tubs I store my ammo in. Check them on the first of each month, if the gel is blue you just plug it into a standard wall outlet and it dries them out in a few hours. Throw them back in and you're good to go. Checked yesterday and they were good, but did have to dry them out on the June 1st check. https://www.amazon.com/Improved-Eva-...e-md_k0_11_7_i

During periods of Santana winds that drastically lower the humidity, we open up firearm storage locations to promote drying for several hours when appropriate. Otherwise temps are maintained a
            with space heaters.

OP - great question! I've been pondering that as the mercury hit 106 yesterday and we're looking at 108'ish today in Elk Grove. My safes are in the house - a large custom Hall's with a Goldenrod for firearms, and smaller vintage Mosler with that Eva-Dry (just got it early June). I'm thinking of getting a second Eva-Dry for the Hall's and ditching the Goldenrod as it seems like overkill, and the Eva-day really does a great job! I weighed it before I put it in, and then when it was "full" and ready to recharge. In about 45 days, the Eva-Dry pulled 56grams/about 60ml out of the Mosler (48" x 21" x 21" interior) - see pic for dramatic effect

Yeah, inside my garage safe iq quite warm these days haha. Since my garage is only partially insulated, it kind of struggles to keep up in the cold months, but right now its definitely kicking out some heat

I leave the golden rod on 24x7. And I have 2 750 ml dessicant and a 400ml desiccant to be safe
I recharge the dessicant in an air fryer now in garage using the old air fryer where display doesn't work well

                            This is good too.
Its good enough for a closet, can be left unplugged, and recharged by plugging it in.

my 3 safes are in the house in Denair (close to Modesto) and I have never run any of those. Never had any rust. Many years ago I had a 22rf rust when I left it in the closet in a soft gun case for 8-12 months. Learned my Lesson and never stored another firearm like that again. I have used silicon treated gun socks and Poly Bags and no problem. I have a safe queen pistol that has been in a Poly-Bag for 10-15 years and is still fine.
