    bad experience at dicks sporting

so I wanted to buy a tika t3 from dicks sporting goods. it was cheaper than any other shops around. they didn't have the 30-06 in stock and the guy said they had one in their warehouse and it will take 8 days to come. that counts for my ten day waiting period. so on the 11th day I go to pick it up and no rifle. the guy I dealt with was not their. he was the lead and he will be in that afternoon. so I called and he said he would have to call Monday to see what is going on.no big deal so I called Monday and he said that tika did not get a purchase order. so on Tuesday he told me they got the purchase order and was going to over night it. ok I'll buy that. so now it's Saturday and I go and still no rifle. now the manager I gets involved cause the guy is off. he find other orders that people placed still sitting in a pile along with mine. and on it, it said rifle will release in end of August. there on back order. I'm not mad because it's on back order, I'm mad cause all this time I have been lied to. so since I have been calling everyday and asking for the rifle, I was pissed. since their policy said no refunds. I ended up getting a Benelli 12 gauge shot gun. and got some money back from the difference and left. I won't ever shop their again. one guy ruined it for me.

Ouch. I hate finding out things are on backorder after a place pretends that it was in stock(I have no problem with backordered items, as long as I know it in advance).

if I knew before hand, I never would of got it. now i just bought one and made sure it was in stock at a local gun store. held it in my hands and said this one is mine lol. I hate back order also. I work in the automotive business and I have seen parts on back order for five months. but never lied about it.

They lie because they want to collect your money and get the order.
A really bad business practice nowadays considering once you skrew someone over, the Internet can extract justice.

Now, 100s will read this and avoid this poorly run store.

My only question to the owners of "Dicks" is: Was it worth it..?

Just getting the money is part of it. The whole point of running a store is to get money, so you can't really act like that's the issue.

The problem seems to come up when some shops base their business off of drop shipments from the warehouse/manufacturer/distributor and usually it goes unnoticed, until it comes back to bite them in the *** when the warehouse/manufacturer/distributor is out of stock and they can't get the item within the expected period of time. Of course when that happens... the customer gets screwed(because they could have just bought it somewhere else that actually had the item in stock) out of their time and sometimes money.

I had a similar incident occur with an online retailer last week. Ordered an item, get told it's on backorder, ask them to ship an acceptable substitute instead, get told that's on backorder. Ask what they actually have in stock and end up settling for an item that wasn't quite what I wanted, then they managed to still ship the wrong item. Now to their credit(a few angry emails and tirades over the phone later), the retailer that screwed up my order is actually taking steps to fix my problem(hence why I'm leaving their name out of it).

I've also had other shops in the past tell me something that appeared to be in stock was on backorder a week later and then give me an attitude when I tell them to just cancel it.

But for the OP it's worse, because instead of just fessing up to the backorder problem in the first place, he was flatout lied to.

I went into the store to buy it and the guy told me they had it in their whear house. later I found out they had to order it from Italy! so from the beginning it was a lie.

dicks has guns. news to me i went to the one i pasadena. was not impressed. mostly sporting apparel and shoes bikes, baseball and golf seem to be the main stuff. no gun stuff at all and no fishing.. about a year ago went to the one in oceanside.... same thing no guns or anything related no fishing hardly any camping mostly just exercise, golf, baseball, shoes and clothes. so i guess i will never need a reason to go to dicks

I was just in the Modesto store yesterday. Been looking for something for my kids to shoot(almost 9 and 10) they had a single shot Rugar for $110, thats less than a colapsable stock for a 10/22 so figured it was a deal. Man the kid that sold it was new had to get help from the other kid at the counter and everything had to go through a manager thatworked in the basketball dept. They didnt even want to run me through the system because I wasnt born in the states (born on Guam when my dad was stationed there). They only charge $25 for the dros and the gun prices seem decent it was just the all around hassle......

I haven't even seen a Socal store that has firearms.

I emailed them asking which ones did and they replied that I would have to call each store individually and ask them. Not impressed
