The material that makes it glow can be construed as "any other chemical substance" and it is marketed as a "tracer", therefore do not import/possess it in CA. Unless you are willing to spend $$$$$ to fight a DD charge in court.

    Penal Code 16460
    (a) As used in Sections 16510, 16520, and 16780, and in Chapter 1 (commencing with Section 18710) of Division 5 of Title 2, "destructive device" includes any of the following weapons:
    (1) Any projectile containing any explosive or incendiary material or any other chemical substance, including, but not limited to, that which is commonly known as tracer or incendiary ammunition, except tracer ammunition manufactured for use in shotguns.

Shotgun tracers and signal devices are exempt from CA's DD laws, in order to not entangle boaters who use 12gauge flares and such.
if CGF is willing to help me out, i would volunteer to be the test subject.

With all of the other 2a problems we have in this state, I doubt tracers are even on their list of things to get taken care of in the next decade.

don't really have anything to lose. i am only 22 and don't have any real responsibilities. imo i would be the perfect candidate, since others who would normally volunteer have kids and stuff which would prevent them from taking an economical risk.

You do realize that it's more than an economical risk, right? If you were to lose such a case, I recall(could be wrong) CA charging DD's as a felony with a 5 year sentence. The financial risk isn't even the biggest problem, the potential jail time and permanent loss of 2a rights is.

I've heard about people getting arrested for having belts of machine gun ammo that they painted orange or red tips on normal ball rounds for a prop display. This was in the 1990's & I have no idea how it played out.

i thought non-violent 1st time offenders with no criminal history got an easier sentence (probation). maybe

if not then oh well, i think it is worth the risk. which is why i am volunteering. i believe that CA banned it because it posed a fire hazard. this new form of tracer that does not pose a fire hazard would be a suitable replacement.

BUT this is why i said if CGF is willing to help me, i would then be a willing test subject. if CGF doesn't think we have a chance in winning then so be it. i don't have the $ to go to court.

so just to confirm again.- if you write CAL DOJ and ask if this is legal in CA you WON'T get a response?

The standard response from CA DOJ is along the lines of "it's up to the 58 district attorneys to decide". They intentionally stay as vague as possible. I'm not saying it's impossible to get some sort of response from them, I'm saying it's extremely likely that any response you get will be useless.

I emailed GLOW and asked them if their product was CA legal here is their response:

We have no reason to believe it is illegal in CA, however, because of how unclear the tracer law is we do not ship to California.

Thanks, and have a great day!
