Moving back to CA from a free state

I am in the process of moving back to Central CA from Oregon and I am looking for answers on some things that are still unclear.

Born in CA but moved for work and re-discovered my love for 2A while living in Oregon. Going to miss the free state freedom.

I AM ALREADY FEELING YOUR PAIN HAVING TO GET RID OF 15 OF MY POSSESSIONS THAT WILL NOT FLY IN CA.

I have done some research to understand what is required so all firearms I have will be CA compliant.

1. Considering it will take up to 12 weeks to get my CA ID, do I need to wait until I have my state ID to go through all of the necessary paperwork to own them?

2. Can someone clarify whether AR pistols are to be declared differently? I have 2 both with 8 inch barrels (22lr and 9mm) that I can't seem to get a straight answer about.

3. What is the designation on a kel-tec cmr30? Will it require pistol grip with wing on it? 16 inch barrel but collapsible stock, it is my understanding that threaded barrels are allowed on rifles (I could be wrong)

Moving back to be closer to family.

I think, AR pistols must be configured with undetachable mag or just take it apart and sell as pistol lower.

Any semi rifle with features must have a wing and no features or undetachable mag installed. Bullet button not ok.

Once you establish CA residency (obtain a CA DL/ID), you have 60 days to report the firearms you brought to CA.
The valid CA DL/ID is required for the reporting process.

Prior to entering CA, all firearms must be made CA legal.

It is also illegal to bring any large capacity (11+ round) magazines or large capacity magazine parts kits to CA.
It is only legal to bring 10 or less round magazines to CA.

Because the magazine is located outside of the pistol's grip, AR style pistol must operate using a fixed 10 or less round magazine that cannot be removed without disassembling the pistol's action or that is permanently attached in the pistol's magazine well.
In addition, because of CA SBR/SBS laws (which are stricter than Federal NFA laws), AR style pistol should not have an arm stabilizing brace attached to it.

In order to be CA legal as a semi-auto rimfire rifle, the Kel-Tec CMR-30 needs to have an overall length of 26" or greater.
The overall length of a factory Kel-Tec CMR-30 is 22.5", which makes it a CA illegal SBR.
Therefore, the two options to make it CA legal are:
A. The stock needs to be fixed in the extended position, so that the overall length is 26" or greater.
B. A 4" or greater length muzzle device is permanently attached to the barrel, so that the overall length is 26" or greater.

The very first thing I did was acquire 10 round capacity magazines. Thanks for explaining everything else, it looks like I will have to make cuts to a few more.

I also have a performance center shield EZ 380 with gold barrel.

How will the factory ported barrel be affected?

In my opinion the porting is useless but it is there on a firearm with 8 round capacity.

The primary pins is what I use too. Ported is OK, just make sure pistols don't have threaded barrels? Can you own a threaded pistol barrel out of state and bring it in to CA as a new resident?

OP, Quiet gave you very good information and you'll be good to follow it.

I just want to bring up something that he forgot to mention.

After you file the form/s you need to, the CA DOJ will send you a letter requesting picture of some of your firearms. The ones they fill you shouldn't be allowed to own because of CA laws. Like your AR pattern pistols and the Kel-Tec. They send these letters out to try and catch someone with an illegally configured firearm. There is nothing in the PC that says they can ask for these pictures. There is nothing in the PC saying that you must send in pictures with your paperwork.

It is 100% your choice as to how you respond to this letter. I would highly encourage you not to reply to it at all. Don't let the wording saying that they can't complete your request without the pictures. The law just requires that you send in the info to them. So long as you do that you are 100% in compliance with the law.
