Yes, as of last Thursday, there had been 4 daytime burglaries in the neighborhood. One with an elderly lady home at the time, and all within 1.5 blocks of the local PD.
And yes, I will be reaquiring my LTC...

I live at the end of a cul de sac in a middle class neighborhood. Violent crime is rare here and I can't imagine someone think that a home invasion type robbery would be worth the effort in my neighborhood. I do have a gun or two that can be retrieved within a few seconds but in 25 years in this house I've never needed one yet, hope I never do.

My wife and I live in a very good part of San Jose and just about a month ago our neighbor came to us and said someone tried to come through her front door. The dogs barked and they must have left but the point being is YES even in good neighborhoods you have scum bag elements...

So my wife carries her XD at home all the time now. I have no problem with that because she has a home office and I work away from home. If she feels better/safe so do I.

I'd have to agree with a lot of you guys who carry at home. I had a Great Uncle in San Ramon get home invaded several years ago. He had guns, but they were locked up in his office. Three african american males snuck through his bathroom window and ambushed him, his wife, and two daughters. Put pillow cases over their heads and took everything, including his guns. They were armed with handguns, but fortunately they didn't hurt anyone. He lives in a really nice neighborhood.

In my previous post I said that I don't carry when I get home due to my kids being around. I've had my LTC for 10 years and got pretty relaxed in my routine, which isn't a good thing. I was talking to my wife the other night and she asked me to put more Gun Vaults throughout the house, so I could store some of our firearms. It made me think of how lax I've gotten over the years. If we're in the kitchen or family room and someone kicks in the front door it would essentially block me from accessing any of my guns.

Just wanted to say thanks for the post because I'm getting my head back in the game.

So many of you think that "a good neighborhood" makes you safe. Nonsense. It is making you complacent. Criminals often come to good neighborhoods for bigger scores.

As for the kids angle, like I've said, the safest place to keep guns from kids and also have them handy is under your direct control, i.e. carried on your person.

I have a lot of things going on during lambing etc. I carry more for animal predators than human but you never know.

For those that hope they never need a tool of any kind I will pass on a remark made to me during a briefing to some very powerful military leaders. They stopped me in my presentation and said Mr. Manolito in our business hope is not a plan. Two things happened that day 1. I don't say hope any more and 2 I am prepared.

This is actually the reason I DO carry. Instead of having a gun within reach (of the kids) or multiple safes all around the house....

It just stays on me. If you have a good holster, I bet the chances of an accident with guns is less when the gun is on you...than within reach. My kids are like spiderman. It doesn't matter how out of reach I THINK something is.

                They'll get to it.

I've had my LTC for long enough to be used to carrying. To me, its like nothing really. Don't leave your guns around for your kids to get it. Holster that bad boy!

Then we got a call early morning from him, the CRASH unit was at his house...he had shot and killed a home intruder (there were 3 who came into the house but one got blasted) who had pulled a gun on him.

But I don't carry at home, I don't live in an area that I have to worry about that to any extent and I'm not some kind of doomsday prepper. Besides, if I did, there would probably be a greater chance of a negligent discharge more than anything else.
I hope your friend sold that house. There are areas I wouldn't live, inherited house or not.

Yup! My parents next door neighbors had their car rims jacked and left on bricks. My friend around the corner had a burglar in her back yard, until her dad came out with a shot gun and the burglar hurdled the fence... This is all in a very nice neighborhood. I told my mom I'm getting her a pistol for the house, maybe a 20 gauge , if anything pepper spray.

Also, beware.. I heard about an incident recently about a guy who ran up to a door banging asking for help.. it was a decoy because as soon as the resident opened up the door 3 more guys came in and robbed the individual. Always be cautious who's knocking. Sadly...

I have a plan like most guys out there, but I carry all the time otherwise. I always have a holster on, so I'm always ready to go. It makes sleeping difficult though, it's tough to keep a 1911 Government in place with the elastic waistband on my pajamas. It also takes awhile to dry off after a shower, as denim is pretty absorbent...

I live in a peaceful neighborhood but I still open carry at home. Having a gun on my hip just gives me a good feeling.
