.22's and .17's. Cant be compared. Sure I have a lot of fun with my .22's, but I giggle a whole lot more shooting my .17. Ever shoot grapefruits? A .22 will eventually make them come apart if hit enough times. A .17 will blow them apart. Pieces will fly 20' in the air. Thats the difference between 800fps and 2600fps. They are 2 different rifles with 2 different applications. Everyone should own both.

Ahhhhh.......I call them "Satan's pets".........I HATE ground squirrels........They tear the heck out of my property. Dang cannibalistic, foundation undermining, chicken feed eatin, hole digging ankle breakers...
I am now convinced that I NEED at 17 HMR.....Tired of seeing them flop around.....I want to see them blow up.......
I shot the Savage today and I have to admit, it was a fun to shoot great gun. It felt like a good quality, solid gun.
Thanks again for the advice. You guys are great.Last edited by greg36f; 04-21-2012, 8:00 PM.Comment

Everyone has different selections and look at thing different, I bought a 17hmr savage, "BUT" have not shot it yet, but after I bought mines and even though I have fired it yet. A lot of people started telling me that I should have gotten a CZ, from what I am told that CZ are much accurate.Comment

Don't worry about that. Shoot that Savage until you are so good with it, that you know if the CZs are better or not. Then either way, you will have gotten your money's worth.Everyone has different selections and look at thing different, I bought a 17hmr savage, "BUT" have not shot it yet, but after I bought mines and even though I have fired it yet. Reload?Originally posted by RibkickAmmo cost? Just an idea.
Can't reload .17 HMR and you won't get very far if there is some wind.

Try it with 36gr varmint grenades in .223.22's and .17's. Cant be compared. Sure I have a lot of fun with my .22's, but I giggle a whole lot more shooting my .17. Ever shoot grapefruits? 2600fps? That's cute, add another 1,000fps...
Best part, you can shoot things at 150 yards and still have considerable energy left and the round won't blow away.Comment

Really?!?!
The OP is asking about 17hmr. Have a little respect and keep it on topic. Nobody asked about any $1 per round boutique 5.56 ammo that's only effective against gophers.
I have shot .17 hmr past 300 yards in Wyoming, with a 15-20 mph crosswind, and it worked great. Member Spencerk recently had a thread about hits at 800 yards with a 17 hmr.Rightful liberty is unobstructed action according to our will within limits drawn around us by the equal rights of others. I do not add 'within the limits of the law' because law is often but the tyrant's will, and always so when it violates the rights of the individual.

Little respect? A lot of guns I bought were from ideas from people I did not consider in the first place. Thats what Internet forums are for, ideas...Really?!?!
