.40 to .22 conversion or a new .22?

This has been gnawing at me since before my G23 was out of gun-jail and I've been on the fence about it.

I want something I can take with me and spend more than an hour or so at the range without draining the bank so I've had an eye on a few sub-$500otd .22 pistols and some of them seem to be trouble, especially the Ruger SR22's.

I've also came across a couple .22 conversion kits for the Glocks that run ~$300. I'm curious if this would be more beneficial to have more trigger time with a familiar frame/trigger even though they would respond nothing alike?

I'll eventually end up with both but which route would YOU take first, and why?

my next purchase is going to be the issc m-22. i just like that it fits the same holsters as my g17, and it shoots 22lr.

I'm still reading up on the ISSC's. I just found out about them literally 2 or 3 hours ago when they caught my eye in the case. I like the feel and he allowed me to dry fire once. It felt nice but you're still talkin' ~500 bucks for a .22 once everything's said and done + magazines. ouch.

I like my G22 (.40) to .22 AA conversion setup. Works great and the only thing missing is recoil. Accurate enough to 15 yards (length of indoor range) with Wolf Match Target and CCI. Its of course not going to be as accurate as say a Buckmark or 22/45 but I use it for tactical practice, not counting the spaces between the holes.

Out of curiosity, which conversion did you go with? Would you happen to know what's stopping manufacturers from producing simply a .40 to .22 barrel/spring swap? What purpose does the slide serve that makes it the only option?

Dont know the answer to your second question but I got the Advantage Arms kit for $275 shipped thru a vendor on Gunbroker.

The weight...the RF can't cycle the CF slide

Ah. I figured it had something to do with the CF pin not working properly with a RF. I didn't really think about the weight.

The firing pin is a easy fix...you just off-set the bore...the extractor and ejector location is a much bigger issue

The most complicated thing is to get a magazine that will feed reliably

Well, The Glockstore just took me for $330 for the kit. They claim 10% off orders $150+ but wouldn't honor it for the kit. I couldn't find it in stock anywhere else so it doesn't burn as much... but still doesn't make me feel all warm and fuzzy like most orders do. haha

I suppose a 9mm conversion barrel would help save some $ but not as much as a nice .22 pistol.

I have a G23 and I went with the lone wolf 9mm barrel to practice with. BTW you can use the 40s&w mags with 9mm too.

22lr pistols are generally finicy 22 conversions are even more so
