    Browning High Power or 1911?

    I'm 100% set with sticking to .40

With that said, BHP or a 1911 chambered in .40? If the 1911, which one would you recommend?

    In .40, no idea.

Someone push down on Browning's grave to keep him from jumping out.

I put a box through a Springfield Gov today and aside from the scales themselves, I loved it. I checked out another, I forget the model but it was blacked out with stainless accents and some kind of aftermarket grips... it felt amazing. The slide release was pretty far up there which was the only thing I didn't like.

I've never held a BHP but it was suggested to look into if interested in a 1911. I'm not sure if it's a cult-classic kind of taste or if it's worth pursuing. The ones I've seen for sale are well worn but I love the way they look when clean.

Edit: I also asked the range master about the officer's in a .40 and he said they don't exist but can be converted but nothing but trouble when you do.

Try a .40 CZ. It is not a clone.

They don't have any CZ's for rent but I've heard a lot of good things about them (I've wanted one for a little while but couldn't find a shop where I could handle one so I went with a Glock)... then again people preach Sig's too but I can't stand them.

Never having tried either one in .40 cal, I would say get both because I like both in their "native" calibers...

              OP...that's a nice HP pictured.

In .40, what? I've tried out both in 9mm back to back and I have to say the high power shoots it nicer. IMO, of course.

BHP feels better in MY hand. It's good when it feels like part of you.

What is your budget? I ask becuase that BPH you posted would cost you a mint!!

                    Very nice looking however.

I own both 1911's and a BHP, but in their normal calibers. I personally like the 1911's because they feel better in my hand, but the BHP is an accurate firearm. If you get a standard, than I'd recommend a trigger job because the stock triggers seem pretty heavy.

I would try the guns in all three calibers to see what you shoot best with. I had a Glock 22, no problems with the gun, but I just did not shoot it well. I have an older BHP in 9mm and I shoot really well with it. I can get back on target quickly. If your set on the .40, and have the budget for a high power, I would try the Sig, HK, CZ, and anything else you can and see what you shoot best with.

FN/Browning made one - but no longer sold. There are still some new scattered around but your best bet is the used market. I'm not aware of any of the clone makers producing in .40 but there are some rumors that FEG produced some.

I have a CZ 75B in .40 S&W and a Browning Hi-Power in 9mm. I can honestly tell you that after an extended range session with the CZ my trigger finger is extremely sore due to the DA trigger back lash/reset. It is very accurate though and the weight of the gun keeps the recoil bearable. The Browning Hi-Power is an very elegant gun and shooting it is a pleasure. My Hi-Power trigger isn't bad at all and shooting it in 9mm is way more enjoyable than shooting my CZ. A Hi-Power in .40 is going to recoil more than the CZ due to it's weight. This is intersting because I find the .40 S&W cartridge way more unpleasant to shoot than the .45 ACP and certainly more than the 9mm Para. I shoot my 1911's all the time as well as my Hi-Power. I don't shoot my CZ too often.
