    This one ;

    Mossberg 500 Cruiser 12 Gauge Pump
    200 lumen CREE LED light

    Loaded with 3 #00 Buckshot and 3 slugs
    Side-Saddle holds 3 more of each.

    I keep it next to my nightstand with an ammo belt that holds 25 more rounds.

    I think a pump is better since the sound of the slide racking will generally cause most bad guys to take off running in the other direction.

      The only thing you should have to do is release a saftey if so equiped.
      Remember that long guns don't have drop safeties. The safety on a shotgun simply keeps the trigger from moving forward.

      This is why LE keep their chambers empty. In the event of a traffic collision, the gun won't go off accidentally.

        I own an Benelli M1 Super 90 in 12ga and have owned home defense pumps and no contest the Super 90. You have a lighter recoil and a lot more firepower than a pump. In the nightmare scenario of a huge drugged out bad guy charging down your hallway you can lay a 12ga double-tap or triple-tap into center mass. 18-24 .33cal pellets or a couple of hollow point slugs moving 1500fps slamming into his chest should grab even the most drugged out bad guy's undivided attention. As for reliability the M1 Super 90 was designed for military levels reliability. The problem is finding a 12ga M1 in good shape but there is always the M2 or M4. I keep mine handy in the bedroom (next to a Mini-14 so I have a choice).

        FWIW I keep both a 20" and a 28" barrel for the Benelli so that I can defend myself with the 20" or feed myself with the 28".

        BTW if you can't find an affordable 12ga Benelli I'd look at the Mossy 930SPX.

          1. Police departments DO NOT consider SG as a primary defense weapon.
          It is kept "chamber empty" for numerous reasons including but not limted to:
          a) Department Policy
          b) easy access when officer out of vehicle (gun locked, trigger not)
          c) General saftey if vehicle in an accident.

          2. All of those considerations have no bearing on a SD Shot gun sitting at home waiting to be used.

          I stand by my original post.
