Just started watching this, its about the Remington 700 and all the controversy about the trigger.

I thought it was done pretty well. It's hard to argue with the creator of the 700. Remington has rebuttal videos. But there counter argument is weak at best. I don't think a 95 year old man has much to prove by talking honestly about hit rifle and the defects it had.

Most in the gun community hate the video, cause it sheds a bad light on one of the cornerstone American gun manufacturers. Personally I dont care what the company is, if they are putting out a defective product it should be called out.

Not just the old ones, in fact it's the same trigger system that's in production the 700 today. From the show there is a model made with the trigger block but the original design is still in production.

I have seen the program and not knowing all the facts, it just seems like a case where the bean counters figured it is cheaper to settle a few law suites than redesign and suffer the ramifications of how wide spread the replacement cost of new and old alike may cost them after additional lawsuits, litigation, etc. Just a knee jerk response.

If this were a real problem, then we'd know about it. There are more than enough 700s out there in the hands of people who pull them out once a year for deer season to showcase any design flaw.

If you mess with the internals of a gun, you're going to create problems. I'd bet dollars to donuts that these rifles all had triggers that were "improved" by someone who knew little of what they were doing.

We did this thread last week. Bottom line: If the video scares you, don't buy a 700 REM but about 10 million rifle owners have voted the other way.

Hahah! My dad called me once, obviously worked up after watching this piece and insisted that I get rid of my brand new 700 rifle. I would bet that most non gun people would feel the same after watching this, and much fewer would bother to watch the Remington response to this. If you believe what the big R says, not a single one of the rifles sent to them could be made to malfunction, and were X-Rayed as they came to check for sear engagement.

I'm sure the reason behind guns that have actually gone off by themselves is the same as why everybody hates the new X-Mark/Pro and loves the original 700 trigger - you can tune the old trigger, including reducing sear engagement which if done wrong will eventually lead to the gun not staying cocked, or the striker falling off of the sear at the slightest provocation.

I think it has to do with people tinkering with the trigger. The new X-Mark/Pro has all of its setscrews glued to dissuade this practice.
