    Ammunition Residency Check

My brother is in town from Texas and we are going shooting tomorrow. He wanted some more 9mm for my GLOCK 34.

So we went to Walmart, we waited a while, finally found employees and they called over the intercom for someone to come help. Nothing. Went and found a CSM who told me that their only certified person called in sick. Lame. But ok...

Off to the next closest location. Guy was quick to help us and was super nice. Unfortunately they didn't have the Federal bulk 9mm 100 packs here so we had to get Winchester White box bulk for a couple bucks more.

We get over to the cash register and he goes ok I need to see ID for a "Residency Check" my brother produces his TX DL and the guy is like ohhh yea I can't sell to you. Luckily he was cool and said do you have your ID, which I did and it was over. He didn't even make me do the purchase or any other BS.

So I ask the guy if this was a new law I hadn't heard of or if it was Walmart Policy. He stated it was the law and that its been that way for a long time. I didn't argue with him.

So did a search and came up with this thread:

So apparently this FUD is still going strong.

    Anyone else run into this?

    I know, "Cool Starry Bra!"

Yea, your kind of stuck, let that be a lession to you, keep more ammo on hand.

Unfortunitly there is not much you can do about it, they have their policy and I suspect just to keep it easy they tell their workers it's law and the average Walmart employee is not likely to question it.

The rare times I go into walmart I just assume whatever employee(clerk on up to manager) I deal with would lose a game of checkers to a potato, there are always exceptions, but if you keep expectations low you wont be disapointed.

OP, which Walmart was this? You want decent service you go to the ones in Moreno Valley. The usual cashier at the Eucalyptus store is also a shooter so he knows the law well.

Biggest problem with trying to purchase ANYTHING at Wal Mart be it a mop a Clint Eastwood dvd or a brick of ammo is finding an employee whose alive awake and coherent enough to sell it to you.
Yes I am a proud New Orleans Saints fan.I think they need to call in a "Bounty" hit on Roger Goodell.

First one was the Day street / Eucalyptus.

The 2nd one spreading the FUD was the Moreno Valley Super store off Moreno Beach drive

River City Gun Exchange took a photo copy of my ID and a thumb print to buy 1k .223 , same if I bought a single box.

Walmart never checks my ID or asks any questions. I'm obviously over 21, and they just ring it up. No biggie.

I'm not saying this is the case...but....

In the city of Carson, its a city ordinance that requires you to produce ID, give a thumb print and signature. I got this when I went to Big5 at the Carson Mall (South Bay Pavilion) just about a year ago. I walked out, but found out that there are some cities that require this nonsense here in So Cal. The city of Los Angeles requires something similar to this idiocy also.

Don't be so quick to call FUD unless you its the case know for sure.
