    9mm or 40cal

Well I'm still debating on what caliber to get, I want to know what you all think I'm going to get a side arm for work and the way i see it people argue back and forth about what is a better caliber 9mm or 40cal I'm getting this for both on duty and for personal protection and as far as i can tell theirs not too much different between the two if there both using Hollow-point bullets but lets see what you guys say and pleas give the reason you selected the one you did or why you didn't pick the other caliber thank you

Proper shot placement would far outshadow any negligible differences between these two calibers. 9mm is more readibly available for less $$$ than .40 so you'll be able to practice more

9mm is an all around good round.
Easy to shoot, available most everywhere, cheaper then other common rounds (.40,.45, ect.)

Just like shooting my 9's more. The recoil is less snappy.

40s good if you shoot heavier grain. I like 9mm for price.

Shooting accurately (for me) is a balance between holding the gun firmly enough to control it but still being able to relax enough to steadily squeeze the trigger where I don't actually know when the round is going to go off. I have several different caliber handguns, including .380, 9mm, .40, .357, . 41 and .45. I find the sweet spot for me is the 9mm and accordingly that is my daily carry gun and the one I train with the most although I train regularly with them all. I find it to be a very personal decision and one that can be best made by simply shooting as many different guns in different calibers that you can. The more in one session the better for comparative purposes. Even better if you can have someone who knows what they are doing (trainer, shooting coach, instructor) watch you while you do it. You may have reactionary components to your shooting that could be telling but you are not aware. I did a shoot with my instructor with 6 different guns. He took notes while I shot all six and made no commentary as I was shooting. When I was done, we discussed each one and the results were not what I expected to hear and there were things I was doing that I was not aware of. That session helped guide me to my carry choice.

You can swap a 9mm barrel in a .40S&W pistol and shoot either.

If I can do it all over, my buy would be glock 35. Then I would just pay out another 165 for a 9mm conversion barrel and buy two g17 magazine for 50. You have the option to move down buying a 40, but you can't move up buying a 9. But that's just me...

                    One gun, two calibers.

                    +1 ^

                    Same here.

But I would get a Glock Model 22--better fit for my hands.

A fitted 9MM barrel for it is about $140.00. Then you buy and use the 9MM magazines (to avoid blowing up the gun).

Only shoot the correct caliber from your magazines (do not ever put 9MM in a .40 mag.).

9mm has been proven effective for over 100 years. Millions of rounds floating around. NATO standard, so easy to find everywhere. The best reason for me to choose 9mm is that you can still fairly easily find certain "high performance" rounds that are on a list, that you can't get in other calibers like .40, as they never made standard production rounds like those after a certain time period.

Get 9mm now... and later when you're ready for a bigger caliber you can get .45ACP. I limit my handguns to .22LR, 9mm, and .45ACP. For me, that covers all the bases...

Is this only for the Glock mentioned or all magazines? I've read of a lot of people using .40 mags to get more 9mm rounds in them. Haven't heard the negatives. It could be in reference to Sig Sauer though as I don't have Glocks.

9mm vs .40 vs .45 is a never ending debate. You need to read up and figure out what is important for you or situation.
