NO steel. They made me take down a shoebox sized .22 spinner and they made another private range stop using metal bases with wooden sticks holding the targets.

No balloons either. Forestry service rules, apparently: everything must be biodegradable.

I've written up my ongoing adventures as I learn to hunt.

Yes, you CAN fit a case of shotgun shells into a .50cal ammo can.

I think i found an optimal solution for ammo can labeling.

I made this target for the NRA's Marksman pistol test. I think it's a lot better than the paper plate they suggest.

Today, most likely. (cuz it's raining!)

It's got to be REALLY wet before they allow steel. It's necessary as the area is prone to fires.

One errant spark can do a LOT of damage!

ALWAYS call or check with the range office before bringing steel targets or steel ammunition.

Jerks that figure they'll just ignore these rules are the ones that risk range closures for the rest of us.

          From their FAQ:

"We allow the use of steel targets on the pistol and private ranges. Steel targets must be placed at a safe distance. Steel targets are never allowed on the rifle range. As an alternative to paper targets, we sell bowling pins and biodegradable clay pigeons. Fruit and vegetables are allowed and provide a fun alternative to paper."

They didn't allow us steel on a private range even though it rained the day before and forecast to rain the following day. All depends who's at the front desk imo.

But considering it's probably pouring up there right now, I would like to say "yes", ha.
