    The one that got away

We have threads here for prettiest gun, first gun, ugliest gun, etc. But there is one topic not yet listed. The one that ought to have the most amazing pics and stories yet. And it's happened to all of us.

It's the one that got away.

We saw it, we wanted it, we decided to sleep on it, then before we could plunk down the bucks, it was gone. But we simply did not go quietly into the night. We lost sleep, checked gunbroker, asked around, called dealers, but it was a done deal -- we had lost a good deal. OUR good deal. And someone else was out there with YOUR gun.

So, what do you still pine for? What slipped through your fingers? What gun will you not let go if you come by it again?

    Post pics!

    My missed op:

Several years ago,Knight's was going to make an SR-50.To me the ultimate AR in .50BMG.Had a $5000 deposit on it.Was going to get one of the first ones.

Then California banned new sales of .50BMG rifles.More than half of Knight's orders were from Ca.Project was cancelled, deposits refunded.

This is one of the reasons Knight's won't do business in Ca.Wish they followed Ronnie Barret's excellent example instead. He will deal with Ca. citizens, but no Ca. Gov. agencies.

Beretta 92G-SD. Bought a 96G-SD from a guy and could have bought the 92G-SD at the same time for a good price. For whatever reason I passed. Should have bought it as well.

I have 2.. First was an Arrieta sxs 20 ga at a gun show for $250. They routinely go north of 3 grand these days.

second, an Auto-Ordnance Thompson 1927A-1. With 5 30-round sticks. And a 50-rd drum. In the "violin case". Price? Well, I was at a local gun store. The guy needed cash, and they weren't willing to give him the $350 he wanted.

Yeah, I have heelmarks on my backside from kicking myself over that one.

I saw a Winchester 94. Octagon barrel, rifle butplate. Guy behind counter says its $225 because they dont make .30wcf anymore. I didnt correct him. I went to count my pennies but came up about $205 short.

Back in late 93, early 94, I had a chance to pick up a bunch of new HK SP89's with consecutive serial numbers from a friend who owned a shop that was big into HK gear.

He wanted $600 each, but I could have picked them up for $550 each if I'd bought a couple.

Last time I checked, they were going for $3000-3500 each, NIB. Another case of "saw a ripping deal at a good time", but "no dinero in the wallet-o".

He gets the crazy idea you're laughing at him.
Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to,
I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

I had the opportunity to buy a brand new Browning Golden Clays for almost 80% off retail. it was on consignment at the range. i decided to go shoot my round and than put a deposit down. buy the time i walked back in 30 minutes later, it was gone.

another one was an opportunity to by a set of 8 S&W 7-shot revolvers. really sleek guns, and they were all sequential serial numbers as well. it was one hell of a set, and cheap as well. i passed it up, and kick myself everyday because of it

German 'drilling', friend wanted to sell it for a couple hundred bucks but the rifle chambering was a mystery so I passed on it. Later I changed my mind and offered to buy but it was gone. I'm sure it was worth the 200 we was asking
