    Kimber Raptor

    Hey guys, gals,

Was thinking about getting a Kimber Raptor or the Custom TLE II. Am I making a big mistake choosing Kimber? I've read plenty of negative things about Kimber 1911s. Any thoughts, concerns, suggestions will be appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Joey

My Kimber Tactical II with external extractor

is superbly reliable and accurate after many thousands of rounds in 2 gun, and 3 gun matches.

The only problems I have had are with bad brass or incorrect spring rates. And, I have encountered those same issues with my Glocks and my other 1911's.

Any new match 1911 or tactical match 1911 will require some patience during break-in, and careful selection of quality ammo.

I bought a very-well-used Raptor II, it's even an external extractor model, and it has been perfectly reliable for me, with about 1200 rds so far. It's also the most accurate handgun I own.

There's a lot of bad stories floating around about Kimber, but there's also a lot of bad stories for almost every other company, too.

I have seen some pretty recent posts about Kimber really stepping up their CS as well- fixing stuff fast, free, and even out of warranty for non-original owners.

I don't think it will be a bad decision, there's plenty of very happy kimber owners.

Thanks for responding guys. I rented a Kimber Target at a local range and I really like the feel and the trigger it had. Does anyone know if there's a difference in accuracy between the full size and the pro size?

IMHO, the Kimber Raptor series from the custom shop are some of the best made.
I love mine. I have the 3", 4" & 5" Raptor II's blued. I hope to one day add their stainless brothers to the collection.

kimber customer service has always been very good to me.

i had one major issue with my Kimber CDP II and Kimber made good and sent some extra goodies to me as well. Brand new out of the box...CDP fired more than 1 round on a single trigger pull. they paid for shipping both ways (my dealer ffl shipped and received it on my behalf). The customer service was awesome.

i have a Ultra Raptor II as well over 1500 rounds and i trust it the most out of every gun i own. the black scales and walnut scaled grips are just awesome!

I have had a Kimber TLE/RL II for a few years now... great gun. Eats everything... Just read about the break in and you should be fine. I have had zero problems with it.. I have moved up in 1911's and have others that are more expensive and that shoot much tighter... but my Kimber goes to the range with me everytime for a mag or two... I still love shooting it..as well as trust it on my nightstand.

6000 rounds no malfunctions and will put a whole mag into a quarter still

it still looks pretty good for how much use it has had

Thanks for all the responces. I've made up my mind and getting the Rator in Blue. I found a good deal on gunsamerica.com. Does anyone have any experience with buying from them. It's just like an ebay for guns.

Good choice with the Raptor II. I've had mine for about seven years without a problem. Just not a gun you want to be rough with because it looks so dang good. I liked it so much that I have another Kimber in jail right now.

Yeah, the Raptor is the only one I really fell in love with. I've liked around at other 1911's and I keep going back to the Raptor. Will be going to start the process later today.
