So my oldest son is turning 6 in April and I feel he is ready for a Ruger 10/22 of his own. Lord knows he's had more than his fair share of experience with mine and I think he's clearly ready for an autoloader of his own now to go with his bolt action. Problem is we really enjoy our reactive targets and he has clearly gotten bored with the clays, suckers, paintballs, and water balloons we normally shoot. We need new ideas for fun reactive targets. Any help would be appreciated.

Reactive Rimfire Target Ideas?

Steel swingers are always fun. The range I shoot at uses busted clay from the shotgun range as cheap ground cover (instead of buying gravel) so we use clay pigeons as targets. Set close for new shooters or out at 200 yards for the rest of us.sigpic50BMGBOB aka 50BMGLAZARUS aka 50BMGZOMBIEBOB aka the UN- DEAD!Comment

How about one of these:
I have one and it works well with .22 rifle -- not so well with handguns. I painted the ends yellow so it shows up better against the desert background.
People don't like to be meddled with. We tell them what to do, what to think, don't run, don't walk. We're in their homes and in their heads and we haven't the right. We're meddlesome.

Have you tried potatoes? I usually buy a 5-10lb bag when taking newbies shooting. They blow up really well with a .22 Only bad thing about them is they're brown and they blend in with the dirt haha.Comment

And for the win... www.tannerite.com has some new targets under the rifle section made just for rimfire. I tried them and they are quite impressive.Comment

Ground squirrels. Lots of 'reactive' in them little buggers! The thing with firearms is that they are not like any other consumer product, simple ownership of one carries a lot of responsibility.
Some idiots are too busy knowing it all to ever learn anything
