Shotgun or Handgun - that's the Question?

The BIG question is for home defense, which one is better HANDGUN or SHOTGUN? and Why?

Take out their vehicle before they even get to your house.

hmm.. home protection (not carrying around all day)...

one ounce of lead at 1400 fps (or more)

less penetration danger to nearby structures

easier to aim accurately

cheaper

legally classified as a long gun so less hassle on transport and possession.

I'm going to have to say shotgun, but if that is the wrong answer, then get a revolver


downside of a SG. you have to learn how to use one..not as straight forward as a sixgun

-shortstroking or jamming on a semi auto
- easier for the longun to be taken away from you.

I still choose the SG.

Have you shot stockless shotguns with pistol grip? do they have high recoil? are they hard to control ?

lol, if you are renting, the big holes the 12 gauge will make will only cause you to lose your security deposit. You can spackle over pistol caliber bulletholes.

The difference is important in that apartments and condos are generally smaller and more cramped than houses. Overpenetration also becomes a more important issue, as you are most likely sharing at least one wall with another apartment/condo.

Both, but primary is a shotgun.

Handgun for me, because it's easier/faster to grab from the safe already loaded. Bonus points for being able to operate with only one hand (While the other hand is calling 911).

The sound of loading a shell into a shotgun is scary enough. And you don't have to worry about a bullet going through 5 walls killing a baby next door. But then again it would have to be a short shotgun. Thats why I have a Glock 19 too.
