    Full auto shooting in Oakland

I was sure that someone would have posted this already, but I haven't spotted the thread if it has.

It seems that one guy is reported as shooting with full auto. They didn't find the guy or recover a weapon, so I'd bet money that it was some kind of bump fire device instead of a real full auto weapon.

I'm curious what leads you to believe it was a bump fire device?
It's not difficult at all for someone to have or make a full auto weapon and obviously if they are doing drive-bys and what-not they aren't too concerned with being law abiding citizens.

I think this is just a great reflection that laws only matter to law abiding citizens. The criminals and thugs will continue getting and doing what they'd like.

why assume that? there ARE full auto weapons out there.

Criminals have much better access to awesome guns than we do in this state
you don't rise to the occasion,
you just fall back on your level of training.

I think you have it all backwards, only honest law abiding citizens commit crimes and criminals follow the law down to precision!
With all this "gun control" talk, I've not heard one politician say how they plan on taking guns from criminals, just law abiding Citizens.

A buddy of mine had an old Marlin .22 turn itself into a full auto rifle. Something broke or wore out. Just hold the trigger and empty it.

His brother encouraged him to break it in half on the spot. I don't know if he did or not but it sure wouldn't be worth the risk of keeping it to me.

The same exact thing happened with my uncle when he was in his 20's. he went and turned it in to the local sheriff's office and they went and bought him a new one that same day. gotta love small town sheriffs in the 1980's

I'm guessing at a bump fire solution because it's much easier to order a stock and install it than to convert to full auto. Also taking into account that a very small percentage of crimes are committed with long guns, let alone fully automatic weapons, I find the assertion that it was a fully automatic weapon very suspect.

How about it's just someone shooting fast and people have no idea what FA fire sounds like?

When you hear hooves on the road, why would you think 'zebra' and not 'horse'?

Yeah, I was thinking the zebra vs horse thing. I went towards the bump fire thing because it would be very easy to do and wouldn't surprise me.

The thing I found odd/frustrating about the article is that it didn't mention anything at all about finding casings or anything.
