Laws that forbid the carrying of arms...disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes...Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man.

What about some of the royal purple stuff? They have a aerosol can called maxifilm and its suppose to have a very tough film. Dont have any experience in guns but I have automotive and machinist experience. Just wondering if anyone has used it, or I might be the first to try.
      Gun control is NOT missing.

RP sucks in your car and is more expensive than better oils, I'd rather use just about anything else for my at or gun.

CLP for cleaning, few drops of 20W-50 oil for lube.

During my younger years I spent loads of money on every brand of oil/solvent that came out on the market!!!

NOW I've come to the conclusion that they all work basically the same and I'm in the process of using it all up just to get it off my shelve. Heck...I had enought to last for an easy 5 more years.

Bases on my experience here what I've honed my list down to as a standard.

Breakfree CLP ( for small parts)
White automotive grease ( for larger robust patrs like my AK bolts and such)
MP-Pro 7 ( cleaning my guns inside the house)
Brichwood Casey's Gun Scrubber ( cleaning outside)

Every other brand previously mentioned except for Frog Lube I'm trying to use it up for ever. Anyone want to claim that they have a better oil than Breakfree is debateable. Overall though BF is consistantly the best in my book.

Don't use WD40 unless you're trying to displace water. If you put WD40 on your gun, don't use it until you've cleaned it again.

For cleaning a small bottle of Hoppe's lasts a pretty long time. You have to be pretty cheap to avoid it.

If you want a good gun oil on the cheap for things that turn, use ATF.

If you want a good gun grease on the cheap for things that slide, use lithium grease.

Kinda funny. I have guns that are older than you that saw nothing but Hoppes in the bore (cleaning) and WD40 (everywhere) which are just fine. However.....WD40 has changed it's recipe.

WD-40 changed their recipe? From what to what? WD-40 is good at displacing moisture in a consistency that is easily sprayed. It has become a Do-it-all household lube, but is not great compared to the various products intended for specific uses.

I keep reading these topics as I am interested in "new" cleaners and lubes, but I can't use up all of the stuff I have. I guess I will continue using my Hoppe's for a while.

Well...that's proprietary info. A lot of products have changed their formula to keep up with EPA, safety, etc. Marvel Mystery Oil being an example. Back in the day, a lot of lubes were part whale oil. For obvious reasons, that's not practical anymore.

For sure, a lot of modern specific lubes are better lubes than WD40. Just saying that statements like "if you use it you'll have to re-clean your gun" is unfounded. It's a decent cleaner and rust preventative. A bit light on the "lube" function.

^^^^ Exactly, WD40 is a great cleaner and works well to protect from and remove rust. WD40 however is not lube. This is why I use WD40 to clean and protect from oxidation, and a light layer of lube on touch points to keep things slick and moving.

                            Brian Enos Slide Glide

Slide Glide is a great rust preventative according to Gun Tests magazine (no ads accepted). I use it after cleaning with MPro-7 or Shooters Choice (depending upon dirt level).
