I mix my own crap. The stuff I am using now has some Slick 50, ATF fluid, Seafoam, CLP, Military Weapons Grease and I think I also threw some mobil 1 in there. It works like anything else I guess but its a heck of a lot cheaper.

I just switched over to Frog lube, and im happy with it, it does the job and it seems to help in the cleaning process. But alas its not magic lube that makes FMJ's into high explosive rounds! It just does a good job of keeping everything slippery, rust free and it smells good(dont taste it... doesn't taste good!)

browsing through these forums ive seen so so many topics come up about lube. Hoppes, militech, froglube, mpro, rem oil, break free, mobile1, jardines, wilson, slip, weaponshield...


So which one should you be using?

The one that you like!



Am i wrong? i put thousands of rounds down range in the Military and we used break free CLP with little issues. Ive but thousands of rounds through my glock using just about everything; wilson combat grease, break free and mpro CLP, hoppes solvent and rem oil, and motor oil, very few issues over the 15000 rounds or so in the glock.

ive got about 700 through my 1911 using mpro 7, and 400 rounds through my AR using mpro and neither have ever failed.

my last 1911 about 800 rounds through it and that was cleaned with hoppes #9, lubed with rem oil, and the slides were greased with wilsons. zero issues with that gun.

my 10/22s usually just get mpro7 and ive had no issues with them

my buckmark has seen more rounds than i remember and more cleaning and lubricating solutions have been used than i can remember and its been flawless.

my 12ga Nova started its life being cleaned and lubed with break free and now i use mpro7 clp and i havent had any issues at all with that.


so pretty much- ive shot several rounds through quite a few different firearms with several different types of lubes and they have all done just fine.

oil is oil, just use some and reapply as necessary.

I use tortoise oil, but it is very difficult to find. I get lucky once in a while and find a road kill tortoise. My dog really likes to roll all over a squashed desert tortoise so it must be good for my guns. It does have a strange odor though, so the wife keeps the dog off the bed when he has been tortoise rolling. She keeps me off the bed for the same reason - - i think.
