    For you buddist gun owners

I am currently doing a 2000 page reserch paper on budism when i came across a rule in Buddhas Eightfold path .

    5. Right Livelihood
Right livelihood means that one should earn one's living in a righteous way and that wealth should be gained legally and peacefully. The Buddha mentions four specific activities that harm other beings and that one should avoid for this reason: 1. dealing in weapons, 2. dealing in living beings (including raising animals for slaughter as well as slave trade and prostitution), 3. working in meat production and butchery, and 4. selling intoxicants and poisons, such as alcohol and drugs. Furthermore any other occupation that would violate the principles of right speech and right action should be avoided.

Just something interesting i found lol,

BTW if you guys have not read about Buddhism and have free time do it, its really interesting,

I hope that you'll spell "Buddhist" and "Buddhism" correctly on your paper.

BTW, I am not sure why this topic is in this forum.

Actually, shooting sports, specifically one-hand target shooting, are practiced by certain buddhist monks (saw pics of it) as I was once told the reasons for doing so, had to do with practicing discipline; breathing, steady hold, focus, concentration, patience, and the most simplistic of all simples for the instant gratification in correlation to the exertion for that of hitting a specific plotted point on the target as intended. Even more so, it is a practice of will to separate and disassociate the perceived access to self empowerment and potential for inciting violence for which a gun can be used, and merely learn to see the gun as no more powerful than a rake for clearing rocks from the sand or a reed for pointing to lessons on a chalk board.

Target shooting is zen in many of its purest forms - you practice so much for such a simple outcome, your spirit, chi, soul (whatever you wish to call it) and body (to the core of muscles, breath, and heartbeat) being all of the instruments in league with the material, tangible, chemical world (the gun and the powder reaction in the cartridge) to cause a leap through space to create a desired effect elsewhere. The bullet is an extension of all that you put into it, will and desire, for it to hit a desired spot. The act of shooting is all modes of concentration, relaxation, being at ease with one's self while being one with the external world. It's a much better practice toward enlightenment than meditation in an empty room. Anybody can meditate in silence with no distractions - but try meditating to achieve an external outcome by interaction with the external world, maintaining complete self-control throughout.

In most cases, due to guns being inherently much more accurate than the shooter, if you have not been in full control of all your faculties and spirit, you will not hit your target and thus you must continue to practice to achieve the desired goal of a bullseye.

Some say that these monks get so in depth with their shooting that they have reported being able to see the bullet as it leaves the gun and the subsequent tubular swirl of air the bullet leaves in its wake. They can literally place the next bullet in that prior bullet's cutting path as if using a tunnel to the target. This has also been a talent reported by top snipers as well.

                      .

Wow , you learn something new everyday, that is awesome. I cant imagine the skill and training that goes into that. I know that Monks and Nuns use bows but i didn't know about guns.

There is a difference between being a gun owner / shooter and being a gun dealer.
