    Polymer Cased Ammuntion

Sorry if this is a dupe

After seeing it in action, what do you guys think about this kind of ammo? Will it be any better? cheaper?

Since they can likely pump it out with an hot-extruded injection molding machine, it would be much easier to manufacture than brass, and a plastic cartridge is pretty much what a shotgun shell is. Don't see why it wouldn't work.

Not a new concept. Natec was selling plastic cased .223 for a while as "Spectrum" with different colors of casing available. Sportsmans guide even still has it listed(out of stock)

The only way I see it taking off, is if they get some big name to help them promote it, short of getting a magpul headstamp.

It's going to be the future of ammo, it's lighter and cheaper to make you just have to use the right materials which very few companies have worked out - many of them are working on them.

I have not heard of anyone reloading them and I would think the kinds of polymers capable of that right now would make it cost prohibitive. CTD has an article about some

PCP Ammunition brings out their polymer-cased ammunition in .308 Winchester again this year at the 2012 SHOT Show Media Day at the Range. With the rising cost of ammunition, we all appreciate accurate range ammo that is affordable to shoot. The guys over at PCP Ammunition have developed their own polymer that resists melting in the chamber. Something previous manufactures have failed at in the past. PCP Ammunition also claims to eliminate case neck separation, ruptured cases, and bullet creep.

There are many benefits to a polymer case as opposed to traditional brass case ammunition:

            Increased accuracy
            Reduces weight
            Reduces weapon wear
            Cheaper to produce

            PCP Ammo

            PCP Ammo

PCP polymer-cased ammunition is 50 percent lighter than a brass case and is designed to reduce recoil by 30 percent. So if you are hauling and storing lots of ammunition, the polymer-case is easy to transport. This is particularly a concern for our military.

From PCP Ammunition’s Web site: “These state of the art cartridges can be loaded using standard loading equipment using a wide range of bullets to meet the needs of ground and air tactical units. Early performance evaluation both ballistic and environmental has shown the potential for greater accuracy, reduced weapon wear, and higher reliability over conventional brass ammunition. PCP Ammunition is in continuous development of new cartridge calibers and additionally, polymer links for belt fed individual and crew served weapons to enhance operator performance and mobility of all warfighters.”

We shot the .308 Winchester 175-grain Sierra MatchKing Hollow Point Boat Tail with 2600 fps at Range Day and we can’t wait to chat with PCP Ammunition on the SHOT Show floor this week!
            Another more thorough explanation

I have shot some and it performed well, I didnt get to shoot it back to back from the same rifle so I can't claim less felt recoil but I have a good reason to believe there may be after shooting it.

I'd like them in 10MM for my backpacking gun.

I'd think they would be awesome for people's EDC guns as well in other calibers.

The fact that they're lighter will be a huge advantage.

Even when it comes to the manufacturer side of things. The lighter a case is, the cheaper the freight is, the cheaper the freight is the cheaper it is for the distributor, the cheaper it is for the distributor the cheaper the OTD price is for the consumer. Good idea.

Question really is, will it work.

I question the use of the brand name "PCP" though lol. Brand names of Angel Dust, Crank, Crack, Cocaine, Weed, and Heroine would be equally bad in case they were deciding to change their name to one of those.

OMG now we have explosive heat seaking ammo that is invisible on X-Ray just like the plastic guns!!!

Actually it looks pretty cool. If it is cheap enough it might offset the cost savings of reloading. Probably not though.

Shotgun shells are plastic with a brass end so I don't see why the regular rifle/pistol cartridge wouldn't work. I would try them without hesitating. Tis all encased by the firing chamber and bolt anyway so unless there is something wrong with your gun I don't see there being a problem. The only place I see a possible area of failure is where the brass ejector rim meets the plastic case if the bond there isn't strong enough you would have a bunch of ripped cases. But since shotgun shells don't seem to be ripping the shells apart when ejecting I doubt that would be a problem

                            Didn't think of that.

I'm still amazed at how people's minds are blown by a product that's been available for a while already from a different manufacturer.
