NOTHING wrong with a .308 Garand.... But stick with the full length models and not the tankers; parts are much harder to find..and good biulders of the tankers even moreso harder to find.

Them navey sleeves were pretty much deemed dangerous........

Yeah, the sleeves could come out. They also apparently had trouble with people trying to load .30-06 into the .308 rifle... which is where the mag block came from.

+1 on a .308 Garand. Mine would shoot great, if I was a great shooter...

It may work and if he is willing to shoot the wrong ammo out of his gun thats his perogative. Would i do it? Absolutely not. I personally feel that if a gun is made to fire X ammo caliber thats the only ammo going in that gun.
Only way i would use different ammo is if the gun was designed to use two different types of ammo. I dont feel liek having a rifle bolt shoved in my face from a blow back or god knows what.

Reminds me of an interesting exchange a few months ago. I was at a local watering hole with a few friends when another friend of theirs walked up. Somehow (as often happens when I'm around) the topic of firearms came up. New guy (who during the course of the previous conversation turned out to be an expert on everything) happens to be an expert on firearms. We begin discussing the AK47, and he tells me that mine is unfortunately a bastardized US version (this is true, it's not full auto, etc) because the original ones could fire almost any caliber ammo through the same action/barrel. He said he had put 5.56, x39, x54R, x51, and a few others through his.

Whats the matter with you, should listen to the people that know. And I KNOW about these things. And he is right, to a point, The action/barrel has been adapted to fire those calibers. Would love to see a video of a 7.62x54r being fired from a 7.62x39 chambered rifle

When "his gun" is at least 100 yards down range, I can put 8mm, 30-06 and even 50BMG though it too!
