Why are the asking prices for used firearms so high?

    Hi,

I notice that a lot of sellers in the classifieds section lists their items at prices that are higher than retail prices. I understand that private party will save some tax and FFL transfer fee, but even including the added fees the prices are equivalent to buying new at best.

Is there a reason that I'm not aware of? I can link quite a few of them but I don't want to point fingers.

    Thanks in advance.

yeah sometimes they have extra mags which makes sense. sometimes people just want to get every single penny they spent even though they are selling it used.

Cant figure this out myself. Was looking at a Remington bolt action and preferred to help someone out here by buying used, but even after offering some on here a very reasonable offer, was turned down. Guess people think that 60 rounds theu their gun still means brand new....Finnaly just bought new.

Buyer could of purchased the firearm during the Obama scare and is trying to get back some of the inflated pricing he/she paid?

I've noticed this as well and not only on calguns. It seems that people tend to overvalue the accessories they add compared to the depreciation from wear and tear. that's why all of my firearms have been purchased new. I'd rather know where its been than pay 20-50 dollars under invoice for a few accessories or even worse, subjective "upgrades".

I like the one's that state, for sale, handgun, special so and so, 100 round count, perfect condition, takes up 24 sq inches of space in my huge safe, only doing this
to make room in my safe, lol. Why not just say, need the money?

Seller starts high, buyer starts low, hopefully there's a happy medium? I've seen abused crap priced at twice the new price before, just walk away.

It could be that there is a very long wait to buy the gun new, so a used one is worth more to the person who can't hold out.

to be fair though- the LGS guys are pricks to "calgunners", ive heard them a few times making fun of how cheap "calgunners" are. i loled, then bought a gun at well below MSRP.

a lot of people on here are cheap though. ill have something for sale, then get a PM like "hey, i can get that for $X, so ill offer you $X" hmmm... why dont you just got buy it for X then?

or "That item goes for $X brand new, can you come down on price?", "sure, can you point me to a link where you found it for $X?", "well, it was slightly used for $X and its in florida", "cool, pay for shipping and ffl fees and buy that one for more than im asking for mine"...

if you dont like the price, dont buy it.

the last person i met from calguns to do a ppt with was very easy to work with, they offered a fair and straightforward trade, we traded, that was that.

"If I bought it for big stupid money, I must be able to sell it for big stupid money."

I usually leave this alone, but when some fool starts quoting retail in his ad it only seems fair to help.

Somehow my help got deleted last time.

Checking, checking,,,, yep, still listed for more than Gun Genie quoted.
