    30 rd. mag

A friend of my son bought a 30 rd mag for a AR15 at a gun show in Reno, I told my son that his friend is looking at Jail time if he gets caught, is this correct?

If he brought the mag into CA as a fully assembled magazine, he broke the law.

The only person who knows that is him so if asked by a LEO he admits to it, he will likely be in trouble.

If he admits to nothing, then there is little they can do.

It's perfectly legal for a Californian to buy a 30 round AR15 magazine in Reno. Transporting into California is the illegal part.

He is looking at immediately taking it apart so that it is just a parts kit.

They need to be disassembled (until that law dies). He's lucky he didn't get tailed leaving the gun show. CA DoJ people were following CA drivers as they crossed the border and then nailing them for having assembled magazines.

Keep in mind its not illegal to possess them, however importing functional magazines is illegal.

Here's more reading if you want more details.

Here's the Calguns version, same stuff, more law text:

It can be prosecuted as a felony.

Lot of risk for a $20 dollar item.

You mean transporting it whole is illegal. In pieces it is ok. Please make sure you give the proper info out before you post

I am sure it already is disassembled, before it crossed the border

Why go to Nevada, they sell 30rd mags and hicap pistol mags at the gun shows here in california.

Most of the better gun shops do too (like Sac Black Rifle).

Fixed it for you! A 13 round XD9 Sub is normal capacity. 10 rd capacity is required for states like CA! We have restricted capacity. AR platform rifles came built with 30rd mags. A 100 rd drum is high capacity.

Colossians., you should actually read the thread before you post. 30 round magazines are illegal to import into California. Magazine parts kits are perfectly legal to import, but this thread is about somebody who imported a 30 round magazine. How did you miss that?

Careful, the CA DOJ and even some LAPD undercovers love to stake out all the way out in Reno, NV and bag people as soon as they cross over back into CA state lines with gun/standard cap (10<) magazine purchases. Keep your noses clean, people.
