thanks for the info guys, just wondering, sounds like its a possibility. Dont know anything about the guy just from what I heard/ over heard. If your concealed you usually dont say it out loud, and if you have a SF weapon in your posession I dont think you should brag about it. Thats why I was questioning it.
"A strong body makes the mind strong. As to the species of excercises, I advise the gun. While this gives moderate excercise to the body, it gives independence to the mind. Games played with the ball, and others of that nature, are to violent for the body and stamp no character on the mind. Let your gun, therefore, be the constant companion of your walks." Thomas Jefferson to Peter Carr, 1785.

Except that if he was a FT LEO, the friend would not need a concealed carry permit. That's where I began to wonder what the friend's status is -- friend says he has a concealed carry permit, but if he has a concealed carry permit, he is not FT LE.

Most departments keep their SWAT trained Officers in an on call status so they will have all their gear available 24/7 for call outs.

it also seems like *if* he's LEO with SF weapons issued/endorsed by a dept he works for he's kind of bending the same rule about CCW, you're not supposed to know about CCW because they are concealed, and for tactical troops, I gotta figure the same logic applies and that people above wouldnt be pleased to know he or someone he told in confidence is making it known he has them.

Law enforcement NFA weapons in California, be they select fire, SBS or SBR, must be owned by the employing agency and are issued to peace officer personnel. Some agencies let their guys take issued NFA home, some don't. Depends on agency and the officer's assignment. Federal agencies have, essentially, the same rules and I've met lots of FBI and BATFE guys who had really nice, issued, NFA weapons with their take home cars.

Personally owned RAW are just that, they are owned by the individual and purchased with their own funds, not with department funds. They are the officer's to keep, although there is a great deal of consternation and churn going on around that right now.

Outside of the largest agencies, SWAT (or whatever less threatening acronym the agency calls it) is an extra duty assignment. The officers assigned work their regular assignment (patrol, investigations, traffic, etc.) and do training and call outs as extra duty. Some agencies let their SWAT assigned officers take home cars with some or all of their goodies, other agencies keep the heavier weapons with the equipment van and when a call out happens one officer is tasked to respond to where ever the equipment van is stored and drive it to the call out location.

It's always a bit of a laugh when the equipment van doesn't start......

until he shows a BADGE and the gun then I would just say yeah ok thats great.
Sounds liek a one of my co-workers who had a Barrett 50 cal until I kept asking him to come shooting with us and there was always a excuse of why he couldn't make it. Hell I told him I will buy all the 50 cal ammo AND clean it when I was done shooting. After about asking 6-8 times i finally called his bluff. by that time the gun magically was sent to his storage unit out of state along with most of his other guns
