If the cylinder FALLS out, it's probably missing the center pin the cylinder rotates on, or the catch or detent for the pin has failed.

I'm sure one can be ordered from Numrich if he's married to the thing. But a .22LR SA revolver for defense? Even in good working order, he's probably lucky they ran :P haha

Talk him into a cheap .38 DA.

There's a reason that Iver Johnsons are also known as "Suicide Specials". Not because people use them to off themselves, rather they're just as likely to blow up and kill the shooter as the intended target.

That being said, I have a few old break-tops in .38 S&W, but they're for show (under a glass top in my bar), I'd never be brave enough to fire them!

wow thats a ton of good info, My dad is not into shooting a whole lot, that revolver was a gift form a buddy of his years ago before he passed away. I think he likes it because that was the last time he saw that guy alive. ya put the word out if anyone has a nice 38 or revolver that needs a good home let me know. Im trying to save for a rifle right now but i can put that off for a bit and buy something for my old man.

More info about the 22. I don't know if this helps but when you shoot it sparks come back and tag you in the face. haha.. POS man. but he is really stuck on it. im going to go pick it up tomorrow

Sparks out the BACK? either the timing is really really off, the cylinder gap is enormous, or you've got some issues with the brass getting pierced.

the cylinder problems do sound like either the spring for the pivot pin retainer is broken, or the pivot pin itself is excessivly worn. the pivot pin retainer could also be the worn component but it seems less likely.

To those of you who dislike the Iver Johnson revolvers, my pre 1900 .32 rimfire young american bulldog is still a good shooter, it just doesn't get shot very much since a single bullet costs upwards of 2$

Yeah it shaves a tiney bit of lead now and then, and its hard to hit the broad side of a barn with it, but it was never intended to be a long range gun, and if you stick it in someones ribbs it will definitly ruin their day.
