My dad was almost robbed last week.

Well i just left my dads shop, I cant say what he does but its part time and its mostly to get out of the house. (away from wife) nuff said.
Well its in a bad area and today he tells me.. " ya last week there were 3 guys that tried to rob me with a bat" he pulled out his revolver and fired a shot i the air to scare them off.. it worked. He said they boned out. If they had stayed around they would have seen the wheel in that wheel gun almost fall out. .. His revolver is only good for one shot and then it falls apart almost. I have no idea whats wrong with it except that its broke. I have tried to get him to keep one of my pistols at his shop but he likes this revolver and is old and stubborn. can anyone tell me about it? all i have is these 2 pics. its a 22.

Well I can tell you what it is. It is an Iver-Johnson revolver. the owls head gives it away. can't tell much more than that except that you really need to talk your dad into a more reliable weapon.

My uncle was robbed once. He got hit in the head with a blunt object and was went into a coma. Took him awhile to regain full speech and balance.

Your dad needs something reliable as those guys might come back better prepared.

ya man i keep telling him but he only wants a revolver.. he's old and hates semi autos. Im thinking of finding a good second hand one, buy it and let him keep it over there. I don't have the cash really right now to get a wheel gun. I'll keep checking the FS forum. i don't have any faith in a 22 cal anyway. especially if there is more than one person.

I love those old Iver johnsons... they're great little hiking/plinking guns.

I wouldn't reccomend them for defense... but it would be fun to fix up.

If he likes revolvers, get him a revolver. A lot simpler action than a semi-auto. If double action, it is a simple point and click interface. If a SA, cock the hammer and pull the trigger. That one looks like a POS SA. Bet you can find a used Ruger Single Six for under 200.

Aren't Taurus M85(.38Spl) like $185 new? You could find a used one for even less on Gunbrokers, I'm sure. Decent guns, especially for his needs.

PM sent on fixing the gun.

I'd reccomend getting a used colt police positive .38 spl.

C&R eligable guns are available on gunbroker for 100$+transfer and dros for a total of 160ish out the door.

Tell your dad to be careful. I'm pretty sure you can get into some hot water for firing shots into the air.

i can't tell my dad anything. and im sure he wasn't thinking about getting into trouble at the time.

ya that 38 special sounds like the right track. I would still like to get his fixed though

no matter how good of a deal it sounds like, DO NOT GET A NAGANT REVOLVER! it's handling is horrendous (unless he wants to collect and plink, then sure-why-not).

wasn't there a ruger bearcat on the F/S forum a while ago?

Hope you can talk your Dad into some of the low-cost suggestions posted here. All are good advice. Having a .22 wheelgun of questionable manufacture with what sounds like a busted crane is a recipie for disaster. Tell me it's those one-of-a-kind grips that keeps him leashed to it. Maybe the grips will fit something better?

I'll second the Taurus 38 suggestion.

Bring that 22 over next time you are here.
I have the gun parts corp catalog with illustrations and parts.
Lots of these 22's out there so part should be available for them.
