I think most of us can decipher the acronyms without issue. Even us old farts.

However, "OMG!!!" as a thread title is clearly lacking substance in terms of description of the contents.
Just taking up space in (what is no longer) the second-worst small town in California.

So if there are people shooting at my local PD, I shouldn't intervene because I really shouldn't have guns in the first place?
this is funny, i think i would steer way clear of any gunfight with the police involved, partly because i dont own a uniform and might get shot, and partly because i am under no obligation to protect the police

while I am under no LEGAL obligation to protect police (or anyone else for that matter) I have a MORAL obligation - and will do so even if that means putting myself in harms way - because whether or not they would do the same for me is not the issue. I would rather the headline read "Man dies trying to save police officer from shooting" than "Former Marine stood by while cop gunned down in front of him"
you don't rise to the occasion,
you just fall back on your level of training.

Anyone that would do nothing and voluntarily let someone die is a sick b----ard, regardless of anyones profession.

Having said that, I'll take this moment to recoginze a true hero. Gary Kness, April 6th, 1970. He came across an officer involved shooting while on his way to work, he ran unarmed into the active gun fight to try and save the lives of several officers who were shot and pinned down.

He was a U.S. Marine, no surprise. Google him, truely a selfless person.

Urban legends are a poor basis for making public policy.

The cops carry guns to protect THEMSELVES while doing their job. Not to protect you.
                    Protecting you is their job.
Something that some sworn officers either choose not to do or fail to do.

I think that he would change his tune if he was a civilian.
BZZZZZZZZT!!!! We're sorry, thats the wrong the answer. the police are under absolutely NO OBLIGATION WHATSOEVER TO PROTECT ANYONE, EVER.

Ask any police officer or DA what their legal obligation is. ASK THEM!

Protecting you... It's not their job!

Your acting like you've never met a decent LEO or Jurist before, I don't know where you live but in the bay area I have met both types and on a number of occasions found very decent people... people (of the first category) who wouldn't hesitate to put themselves in the line of fire to save your *** or in the case of the second sacrifice their careers to save an innocent person if they felt strong enough to do so.

I will grant the point that there are people that violate that point, namely people who's only priority lies with self preservation (note that there are people like that in every profession and corner of our species) but there are also people out there who put themselves out there for others

                      p.s.

I am a jurist myself and as for attorney conduct look up something called disbarment some time it may sober you a bit

The only time I have EVER been pulled out of a car at GUN POINT was LAPD about 2 blocks from where the Hollywood shootpout was... With a fellow CGner... Funny stuff... I keet explaining I was a "White guy in flip flops" an dthat they could put the guns down.

They had guns out and fingers ON THE TRIGGER before they ever saw we had guns in the car. They are just looking for a reason......... I know this cuz a buddy of mine is LAPD in another town and he head the call and laughed and told me HOW they train and what they say about people in general.

If you are really a practicing attorney, you should have picked up on the intent of his post. Go look up the case where a court in D.C. ruled that the police has no legal obligation to protect common citizens like us. Go ahead, look it up, it should be easy for a real attorney to do.

the definition of jurist means anyone who either works, studies or develops the law( in other words lawyers/paralegals/mediators/arbitrators, law students,or professors) and I'm under category # 2 but do you have a case number? (something like 249 U.S. 47) if it's a published common law case i could probably find it. and whats with the hostility towards lawyers?
